This is the third year in a row we have stopped at Pacific Shores RV Resort in Newport, Oregon. I will admit and caution other RVer’s that it is the most expensive place we have stayed but loved the experience so continue to include it in our itenerary. However, we did limit our stay to two nights.

We started our journey planning to golf at Mallard Creek for a week. Then realized the Oregon Coast was under two hours away so we headed that way at the end of the week. Encouraged by the warm fall tempertures, we felt reluctant to go home.

Wondering why we return to Pacific Shores?

The club house hosts a indoor pool, spa, and sauna. Beyond the swimming area is a fitness center. To be honest that is not an area we are acquainted with but it looks nice. The main clubhouse has an area for socializing including inviting, overstuffed couches that absorb a body. Some couches surround a TV and another set are placed in front of a fireplace.

Each rental spot is privately owned and if they are not being used by the owners, they are available to be rented by travelers. When making reservations, pictures are available to assist in making informed decisions. Spots have different amenities: bar-b-cues, ocean views, fireplaces, etc. Below are pictures of a couple. They are all well maintain and provide a level concrete pad.

Throughout the resort are walking paths that lead to isolated sitting areas, one offers a large chair swing attached between two trees that looks out over the ocean. The paths escort walkers through trees and beautiful foliage, eventually ending at a private beach which is only available to occupants of the RV resort. It is a bit of a walk to the sand but not difficult except for some steep steps near the end.

Dagney and Francisco loved the freedom to explore off leash. They investigated the the rocks, seaweed, and even touched their toes in the water. Inquisitive describes Cisco’s behavior better than brave. He is never far behind one of us or close on Dagney's heels. An adventurer he is not but he loves the experience

Dagney,on the other hand, explored high and low often making it difficult to find her because she blended in so well with the surroundings. She climbed to the highest point reachable by her tiny legs. When it seemed she might jump Rand and I both yelled thinking her landing might not be as soft and graceful as she expected.

During low tide there are tidepools to examine with many starfish and sea urchins. The large rocks provide land to a variety of birds. A lighthouse stand elegantly in the distance providing character to the scene.

I take my shoes off so my toes can wiggle in the sand. On this trip we walked by a heart made of rocks and my husband explained how he rushed down here earlier to make it for me as we are celebrating our 42 wedding anniversary. I smiled and winked when I replied, “Really? I thought you would leveling the motorhome.” Reminding myself that it is the thought that counts, we snapped a picture to remember that he thought to lay claim to someone elses artwork to share his love. We laughed.

We took time to visit Newport where we had clam chowder on two separate occasions. When we drove away, our stomaches and hearts were both full and satisfied.
