Mallard Creek: Beauty, Balls, and Blackberries

Our favorite golf course to visit when traveling is Mallard Creek because it offers a piece of paradise. Their webpage boasts it as the most visited golf and RV resort in Oregon.

"Our on site RV resort has 43 sites with a blend of pull through and back in sites. Each of our sites have their own lawns, full hook-ups, cable access, and wifi." - Mallard Creek Webpage

The size of the RV park allows it to remain quiet and restful without all the hustle and bustle of many parks that feel like parking lots. There are large trees that provide shade. Anytime we have visited the temperatures are mild encouraging outdoor activities.

Our first priority upon arrival is to schedule daily gold times. During our 7 day stay we golfed all but one day which we used to rest up. They offer a fall rate of $600 for a one week stay and unlimited golf. Carts are an additional price but if players choose they can walk the course. Opting to use age as a crutch we got a cart each day and used it to go to and from the clubhouse. In the evening, someone comes around and collects all the carts so there is not rush to return them playing the course.

All amenities are included: wifi, water, sewer, power, cable access. There is a clean, comfortable bathroom facility with a shower, as well as, a laundry. Though there is not water recreation available, pool or spa, we are content with the natural recreation.

The clubhouse serves some deli food and has beer and soda on tap. Outside a large covered patio hosts tables, outdoor furniture, and a large propane fire pit to enjoy. The friendly staff accomodates guests' requests and made us feel at home.

If you follow RVing in Retirement on Medium or RVing in Retirement on Facebook, you already know Dagney and Cisco dominate our lives. When the kids moved out, they filled the empty corners of our home. When possible, they accompany us on every adventure. Mallard Creek accomodates their love of riding along on the golf course.

The pups sit like statues while we play. They never exit the cart or bark so we have our personal silent cheering squad - as it should be on the golf course. In fact, Dagney enjoys the ride so much that once the clubs are secured on the back, she hops in and waits for the game to begin.

When we are not golfing, early in the morning or late evening when the golfers have gone home, we use the cart path to ride our bikes. The RV park is adjacent to the course making it inviting. At these time we are the only ones on the course. The scenery is breathtaking. Of course both dogs ride in baskets on the front of our bikes.

Along the outskirts of the course grow wild blackberry bushes. These take me back to my youth when hours were devoured picking berries and baking sweet treats. Added to our edible treasures, we discover treasures at the base of vines, golf balls. After a week at Mallard Creek, there is no need to purchase any balls for quite a while.

The resort lays isolated in the woods so noise is minimal. The course provides just the right level of challenge for my husband's veteran skills and my less honed abilities. It is sprinked with ponds and sand traps that can entrap aggressive golfers but they are positioned such that they can be strategically avoided by a novice.

There are small towns in either direction to purchase supplies and for a break from the kitchen. I felt alittle sad leaving but it helped knowing we would return.
