My Epic West Coast USA Road Trip!

Travelling with Trek America was one of the best experiences of my life! It is an opportunity to travel across the USA with a group of like-minded people who become your new friends for the duration of the trip.

Choosing the Tour!

After browsing the Trek America website, I decided to choose a tour that explored the West Coast USA. I've always enjoyed spending time in California, and this tour allowed me to explore a large part of the state and surrounding areas.

The trip was 14 days in total — visiting LA, San Diego, Joshua Tree, Route 66, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Yosemite, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and finishing back in LA.

This tour really had it all: the chance to explore new cities, hiking through the desert, hiking through mountains, bike rides along the beach, shopping, sun, snow, and time to party.

Meeting Your Tour Group!

Once you have booked your tour and flights, it's time to head to America and meet your tour group.

I flew out to LA the night before the tour started and met up with my group and tour leader the following morning.

Meeting everyone in the group for the first time was really exciting, and we all got along with each other very well. It felt a little bit like the first day of school. Before actually hitting the road, our tour leader got us all to stand up individually and introduce ourselves to the group. This was a great ice-breaker and we all very quickly became friends with each other.

Bonding with your tour group is a huge part of the overall experience. You are travelling with these people everyday of the trip, and you spend literally all day with each other — from the moment you wake up to when you go to bed. But this allowed us to build friendships with one another very quickly, and travelling together was so much fun!

Travelling!

Our tour leader was brilliant and she is in charge of the entire trip! She is the one who drives everywhere and makes sure that we are all having a great time!

All of our luggage gets packed up into a huge van everyday and we road trip from place to place! Throughout the duration of the trip, we stayed in a variety of hostels and hotels! You stay in the same room with at least one other person of the group every night!

I personally loved the road trip aspect of the trip. You really do see some incredible sights throughout the journey and this was also a great time to talk and play games with my fellow trekkers. Road trips are actually a huge part of American culture. My favourite part of being on the road was driving along Route 66 and then seeing the windy roads through the California mountains.

Activities!

Throughout the trip, I got to see and do so much! Such as hiking to the Hollywood sign, sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge, party bus in Vegas, sunsets at the beach....just to name a few things!

But flying in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon is my highlight! Having the Canyon completely surround you, whilst soaring over the sky, was such an exhilarating experience! Our pilot was really friendly and he also taught us a lot about the history of the Canyon whilst we were in the air.

My Overall Experience!

Travelling with Trek America was a fantastic experience! Exploring new parts of the USA, all whilst making new friendships — is so much fun!

This is so different from your typical vacation! Not only did I tick off a lot of my travel bucket list, I discovered so many new places that have now become a favourite destination spot!

Initially, I wasn't really sure what to expect with Trek America! Flying to the USA all by myself and travelling with a bunch of people, who I've never met, before is a slightly unusual thing to do! You do have to step out of your comfort zone in order to fully embrace this experience! However, I loved the entire experience and look forward to doing it again.

Trek America is such a fantastic opportunity to explore a large part of the USA, meet new people, and make new memories that you will always remember!
