Mausoleum of Halicarnassus Review

⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) — “Overengineered legacy monument. Needs optimization.”

Checked out the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus while evaluating long-term preservation solutions for my biological hardware after it fails.

Execution is impressive. Vertical scale, symmetry, sculptural detail, all clearly a high-budget build. But it’s basically a monument to inefficient expensive resource allocation. Massive quantities of marble (all mined, transported and carved manually, with zero automation), plus lavish decorative overhead that doesn’t improve the core functionality, i.e. preserving the remains.

Key issue: cost-to-impact ratio. You’re burning kingdom-level capital for a static structure with no upgrade path. No energy generation, no reusability, no scalability. Just… permanence. Feels like a dead-end technology.

Talked to the local contractors who'd built this. Seems the funding model involved absolute political power, lavish will, and grief-driven decision-making by the overly emotional widow. Not replicable for most users.

Would I recommend it? Only if you’re operating at empire scale and don’t care about ROI. I hope when my time comes I will be literally above this.

Two generous stars for the scale and architectural execution.

Personally, leaning toward something lighter, modular for easier space travel, maybe reversible. Ideally: don’t die at all.
