Think immaculate sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and a tropical drink in your hand, and you'd be instantly transported into the paradisiacal atolls of the Maldives. The shimmering waters of the Arabic Sea contribute to the breathtaking island experience offered by this stunningly beautiful archipelago. But to plan the perfect getaway on these islands, one should know what makes the Maldives unique from the other countries. Here are some tips on planning that much needed holiday to the Maldives.

The ideal time to experience paradise

Due to the country's low elevation, it is always hot and humid in the Maldives. But that's easily solvable with the cool breeze of the ocean constantly enveloping you. Two seasons define the weather of the Maldives: The dry season and the wet season. The dry season starts somewhere in November and lasts until April, whereas the wet season spans from May to October. The wet season is dictated by the southwest monsoons and may bring strong winds and storms. The dry season is considered the best time to visit these scenic islands and is often the high season during which there is a high density of tourists visiting the Maldives. Booking a Maldives vacation during high season can be quite expensive. The wet season brings you the best travel deals.

How long you should stay

The Maldives is indeed the literal definition of paradise. You would think twice about the duration of holidaying in the islands with its charm and almost hypnotic beauty. If you're planning on taking a diving course, then definitely, the number of days you'd want to stay in the Maldives would revolve around that. You can find many Maldives island resorts that offer diving courses ranging from beginner to advanced level with certified diving instructors. But if you do have a time limit, then the best option is to complete an open-water referral course before you arrive in the Maldives, which would shorten your training period. Anywhere from five days to a week or two is the ideal duration to holiday at these paradisiacal islands. However, the latter option would sound more practical once you set your feet in this pure heaven on earth.

Getting there and what to expect.

Once you arrive at the Velana International Airport, which is located on a separate island; the island of Hulhule', you will likely be escorted by a representative of the island resort you'd have booked before arriving. The most common transport methods for reaching your destination are ferry, seaplane, or by speedboat. Depending on the location of your island resort, sometimes you might have to use a combination of the three. Island-hopping is not really a great option as travelling between islands costs more than the total sum you'd pay for a vacation in the Maldives. Therefore, most tourists tend to stay in the confines of their island when in the Maldives. However, this doesn't problematise the wonderful experience you were promised in these islands.

Top activities in and around the islands

The spectacular atolls of the Maldives are a popular destination for snorkelling and scuba diving. You can find incredible diving sites of the likes of a house reef near some island resorts like Grand Park Kodhipparu. How about taking a sunset cruise towards the horizon! It's a must-have experience as everything in the vicinity will be bathed in a gold haze, especially the waters of the ocean, which would shimmer from the pale light of the dimming sky. If your family is one of the lucky ones, you'll get to have the one of a kind experience of dolphins leaping in all their elegance towards the horizon. The adventure doesn't end there. You can also explore the islands to get an authentic taste of true island life. Oh, the places you'll go to when in the Maldives! The array of activities in and around the islands are countless and would surely overwhelm you. However, you should carefully plan out an itinerary, choosing the most viable options. Including every activity that's on the cards would only make you feel stressed and make your wallet feel a little lighter.
