The Maldives is the ideal destination that everyone dreams of visiting one day. Thanks to its spectacular and unique geographical features, lovely weather conditions, luxurious accommodation choices, quiet and solitude and plenty of opportunity for pampering, it has become the household brand when it comes to couple getaways and honeymoon locations. Here's how you can pick the perfect Maldives resort to suit your requirements.

1. Cost

Price is one of the first points you need to consider but before you do, you should be armed with the knowledge that the Maldives can be quite expensive. Especially since most of the resorts take up entire islands and have unique services and benefit packages that make them stand out among resorts elsewhere in the world. The high-end resorts are so good at what they do, they are worth every penny you spend, so be prepared to splurge but be assured that the money you spend will be money spent well as it will give you an experience of a lifetime.

2. Island Features

There are 26 atolls which form chains of islands. Some of these islands are home to a complete resort and nothing else in the case of hotels the likes of Anantara Veli Maldives Resort. You will find the geographical placement of the property, the local beaches, the sea and the sort of marine wildlife that lives in close quarters to the island will inform the sort of experience you will have at the resort. Most of the features of the island, including water sports, pool villas or the soft sandy beaches will be uniform but there will be small differences that enable you to determine the sort of beach holiday you will be having. So do some research on the island your resort of choice is placed in before booking.

3. Accessibility

Airport transfers to your resort from Male, the capital where your plane would land are the norm and will be handled by your resort in most cases. Unless you opt to find your way, which is ill-advised. The transfers will be made by plane or by boat which you can pick. It all depends on how far your destined resort island is from Male. If you aren't interested in going long distances, it would be advisable to pick a resort that is closer to Male. Keep in mind, that if you are going by seaplane, you can only do the transfer during daylight so if your flight arrives in Male at night, you will have to wait until the next day to make your transfer. The same is imperative, especially if you have a flight back to your own country in the night or the early hours of the morning.

4. Accommodation Type

If you are looking for a Maldives bungalow, you should consider the accommodation options that your chosen resort provides, and especially take into consideration the question of privacy. There are beautiful overwater villas, rooms with private pools and rooms with gardens and balconies. Peruse the websites of the resorts you have your eye on and see what sort of accommodation options they offer and choose what you believe both you and your significant other can really enjoy together.

5. Meal Packages

Most of the resorts in the Maldives have star quality restaurants with award-winning chefs. Check the website for the sort of food they serve and call them up about their meal plans before you go. See what each of the meal plans for Full-Board, Half-Board and Bed and Breakfast are before making your final plans.
