What is the best mode of transport to travel about in Jakarta: private cars, taxis, or trains and buses? Due to the notorious traffic here, getting around in Jakarta might be difficult. However, there are plenty of ways to get to places on time! All you have to do is to choose the right transport to traverse Jakarta no matter what your preferences are.

Cars and motorcycles

If you have the documentation and the confidence, you can drive yourself around here in Jakarta. Technically, you must have an Indonesian driver's license or an international driving licence to do so.

Taxi

Taxis are a handy method to move about town. You may get them on the street here or at stands in shopping malls, hotels, as well as other busy areas. Blue Bird Group is the most trusted cab provider. Install their applications to order a cab when you need one. Their website also allows you to hire Mercedes and Alphard cabs and bigger trucks. Having mentioned that, make sure to book your accommodation centrally close to major tourist attractions and activities if you would like to save some money on transport. For instance, first-time visitors to Jakarta can check out Bendungan Hilir apartments the likes of Somerset Sudirman Jakarta, which is located centrally allowing them to access all major tourist attractions for an affordable price.

Online Taxi

‘Grab’ and ‘Gojek’ have revolutionised the transport game in Jakarta. The advantage of an internet cab is that it is often less expensive than a regular taxi. They also feature discounts and coupons for online payment services. Online taxi services like Grab and Gojek also provide motorbike taxis. Unlike typical ojeks, they have established a pre-determined fee for your preferred journey, so you don't need to haggle with the drivers. You’d also like the fact that online motorbike taxis provide complimentary head coverings and masks to keep riders' hair clean while wearing helmets.

Ojek

Several street corners have Ojeks or motorbike taxis. They may transport one person around the block or across town. In addition to being able to enter into tiny spaces, motorbikes are also quite useful during peak hour traffic. Distance is the main factor, although traffic is also taken into account. With little protection, swerving in and out of traffic without a helmet may be pretty hazardous.

Bajajs

These little (and colourful) two-seaters are the best methods to move about town. Price is decided with the driver but is normally significantly less expensive than a taxi.

Biking

Biking is possible in Jakarta, albeit it is a little unsafe due to the lack of bike lanes. Even when you are riding a bike, you should not presume to be in the clear and take every precaution. However, in the less busy parts of towns, it is the best way to get acquainted with local culture and customs.

Walking

Admittedly, Jakarta may not be the most pedestrian-friendly place; however, there are a few places where you can take a walk, such as Kemang, SCBD, Menteng and Senopati, in which you can enjoy the scenery.

TransJakarta

TransJakarta is a twenty-four-hour public bus service that connects the key monuments and attractions of the city, including, Taman Mini, Kota Tua, Blok M, and the CBD. Your e-Toll Card or e-money, which must be keyed in and out at the gate, is required to enter the bus. The main drawback of TransJakarta is the lack of a fixed timetable. You might end up waiting for half an hour or even more for a bus and have like four come all at once. So, don’t get frustrated by it!
