Scuba diving is a great water sport that is loved by everyone, but we often tend to say no for this experience because we are so afraid of the risks involved. Yes, this sport may carry some of the inherent risks, but we always can avoid them with correct training and techniques. This is why you should get trained under a qualified trainer before you start diving and here are some tips that’ll help you. Check this out and chase all your fears away!

Your physical fitness matters

Do you know why engaging in physical fitness exercises matters during your holidays spent at Adaaran Prestige Water Villas or any other of the 5 star hotels in Maldives before undertaking your diving exploration? Yes, you will spend most of your time in a relaxed position when diving, but this is not always the case. Diving in strong currents requires physical fitness, and sometimes you will not even be able to carry your gear if you lack energy. So, have an acceptable level of energy and fitness with you before your diving session.

Be confident with your gear

Underwater explorations will not be possible without the equipment. This is why checking your gear before you undertake the diving session is very important, because if they show some malfunctions during the dive, then that will end up in a life-threatening situation. Before your dive, let the trainer explain to you how to use your gear, and if you have any inquiries, please get it clarified again. Never keep a doubt about the functionality of your equipment.

Know your limits and be within them

One of the most important tips for someone who’s about to try a diving session is ‘don’t go for it if you don’t feel like doing it!’ Your friends may say that there’s nothing to fear about, and they may also say that even the youngsters do it well, don’t say yes (no matter how tough the peer pressure is) if you are not ready. The diving needs a mental preparation too, so it’s as simple as saying one firm ‘NO’ if you don’t feel comfortable with it. And, when diving, explore the wrecks that need deep dives only if you have the necessary practice. You can challenge your limits some other time, but not here, at this moment!

Know the basic rules of air-supply management

When you get the basic training, you will surely be trained about the ‘rule of thirds. This rule teaches you how to manage the air during your diving exploration. According to this rule, a diver must keep one-third of his/her air supply for the outward journey, the next portion for the return trip, and the balance portion in case of emergency. If you intend to have some drift dives, things can be a little different, but the overall idea will always adhere to the rule.

Try out with your buddies

Yes, there is a novel diving concept called ‘solo-diving’ but, do not try this unless you are fully trained and fully confident with the techniques. There is an old saying ‘you dive alone- you die alone’ and there is a meaning behind it. No- this is not to create fear inside you, but to make you avoid all risks as much as possible. Dive with your buddies always, because you have them next to you no matter what happens. Since many emergency skills rely on a buddy, having at least one or two divers with you during your whole journey can benefit you even in the darkest hours of all.
