Hanging Gardens of Babylon Review

**⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) — “Beautiful, but scientifically frustrating.”**

Visited the Hanging Gardens of Babylon hoping to document and collect samples of rare and possibly extinct plant species. Left with admiration, confusion, and exactly three labeled specimens, two of which may just be weeds. One looks like cannabis and the other -- nettle, but I need to do some tests to be sure.

The Gardens are undeniably impressive. Terraces overflowing with greenery. Flowers of all colors. Vines cascading dramatically. Trees growing where trees logically should not grow. A horticultural miracle.

However: No labels with the names of the species. Absolutely none.

Let me take that back. There was one label on a tree tucked away in an obscure corner. It said "the forbidden fruit." Given that it was a common pomegranate I doubt it was the forbidden fruit from The Book, if you know what I mean. I didn't have time to investigate who forbade it and why.

No catalog. No cultivation records. No gardener willing to explain irrigation methods in useful botanical terms. I repeatedly asked, “What species is this?” and received answers such as, “A gift from distant lands” and “The king likes this one.”

Helpful. Not.

Several plants appear highly unusual, though identifying them proved difficult because local staff objected to me taking cuttings. One guard called it “theft.” He certainly doesn't know what research is.

Also unclear whether some species are rare or simply struggling in the Mesopotamian heat.

Would highly recommend for aesthetic inspiration (therefore 3 stars).

For serious botany? -- Bring patience, cunning, and lower expectations.
