The 'Wig Fair' was set to take place today in Ghana on Labour Day. However Ghanian fake hair sellers came to protest foreigners selling products in their country.

The wig fair was set-up by a Nigerian hair seller, who according to social media posts sells the fake hair at a cheaper rate.

In response Ghanians are telling foreigners in the country to go back to their own countries and do business. There are many foreign owned retailers in Ghana, there are business, clubs, China Mall, South African super market named Shop Rite and many more.

Xenophobia in Ghana is nothing new, especially with elections coming soon within the country. Ghanians often discriminate against Nigerians when renting out housing or hiring. The same has happened to many Africans from other parts of the continent in Ghana.

There was a post about the situation on UTV News Ghana's Facebook page, which was a live video. Ghanians went to the comments section saying how they don't think anyone who isn't a Ghanian should be allowed to own a business in their country, they use the term DO BUSINESS.

This hateful behavior is bigger than just Nigerians, all the foreigners in Ghana should be concerned but they won't be. This is why Nigerians are always the largest targets.

Remember the Ghana government is asking for people to come live and invest in their country. Where was the government, police or immigration to end this protest?

We have to wake up , no foreigner should be allowed to do retail business in Ghana. They can do wholesales only , we are already suffering here . How many of our mothers can do wholesale business here , when the small retail they are doing also the foreigners are taking over . Very bad

Charles Mensah

I know alot of you are saying our mothers are afraid of competition, that is not true. You may say they sell in high price. Yes agree with you. But it not right for a foreigner get into our markets and begin to sell as if there is now law regulariting our markets. Please let's us be careful. A time will come these people will take our markets and our mothers will become jobless.

Nana Gyenin

A country that even tooth pick we can’t produce, foreigners will continue to penetrate into our markets, because things fall apart

Charles Mensah the foreigners has even taken over long time. It’s sad for a country.

A picture shared on Priceless Hairs Instagram page showed several posters against the wig fair organised by the brand.

Some of the posters read, "Go back to your country", "No way for foreign retailers", "You can't crash Ghana," etc.

Reacting to the disruption, a statement from the brand read, "Don't worry please. Kindly leave the venue and stop every form of fight you guys are putting up against anybody.

"I and my team have left. Please go home. I will not crash the hair prices in Ghana for them, and that is well understood. I will communicate you all later. Thank you Ghana market women, una don win. One love, one Africa #nigeriamustgo."
