Manaslu Trek

The Manaslu region is a wonderful combination of Tibetan and Buddhist cultures. The people here are poor but have hearts of gold. You can see this in their unique houses, Buddhist shrines, and monasteries. The scenery is spectacular as well. In fact, the region is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

If you are looking for an adventure in the Himalayas, you should consider the Manaslu Circuit Trek. This trek offers stunning landscapes and a unique experience of Tibetan culture. The region is remote and far from commercialization, making it a truly off-the-beaten-path experience. Moreover, it is accessible by car, which eliminates the need for expensive domestic flights.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is the closest to Kathmandu. It is 126 km (80 miles) from the capital, making it easy to travel by jeep or public bus. If you are traveling on your own, you can opt to hire a private jeep, which is specially built for off-road drives. This is the best option for a smooth start. A private jeep will take you from Kathmandu to Dhading Besi, from where you will begin your trek. You can either start your trek from here or continue from Dharapani to Sotikhola.

The Manaslu Circuit trek will take you around eight thousand meters. It will take you through subtropical rainforest and up into the Himalayan foothills, culminating at the Larkya La Pass, which is considered to be the most dramatic trekking pass in the Manaslu region.

Larke La Pass (5106m) in Manaslu

The Larke Pass day is a challenging and scenic adventure, and a day's trek should begin early enough to enjoy the scenery. The trail rises to 5,160m, so you'll need to start your trek early and aim to get to the pass by nightfall. From here, you'll enjoy panoramic views of the Manaslu region and the Annapurna Range.

The ideal time to trek the Manaslu Larke Pass is during autumn/Spring, when you'll have the best landscape and mountain views. It's also best to avoid the Manaslu Circuit during winter and monsoon seasons, when landslides and snow can obstruct the view. However, you can still enjoy the trek during spring and autumn, which are considered shoulder seasons.

You'll also see seasonal herding settlements and Himalayan Griffin. A longer route, known as the Gya La Pass, takes you through a mountain pass and offers even more trading opportunities.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Best Time of the Year

The Manaslu region of the trek is beautiful in March to April, while the higher portions are a bit chilly. In the higher regions, average temperatures can drop to -6 degrees Celsius. The temperatures start to rise by the second week of March. You'll find the flora and fauna on the lower reaches of the trail are in full bloom during this time. However, it's important to remember that the high-altitude trails are still susceptible to landslides.

The best time to trek to Manaslu is during the spring and Autumn season. Temperatures in the valley during this time are around six to 12 degrees Celsius. This temperature range is ideal for daytime treks. It is also the time when the local farmers begin planting their crops and flowers. The weather is also quite stable at this time of year, which makes it an ideal time for mountain climbing and mountaineering.

In comparison, October is the best time to trek the Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit. Starting with a scenic drive from Kathmandu, the trek ascends through dense forests and small villages. Along the way, you'll cross streams and pass beautiful waterfalls. During the trek, you'll pass by the small villages of Philim, Ripche, Mu Gompa, and Rachen Gompa.
