Honestly, once I get married, I'm looking forward to the honeymoon way more than the actual wedding. Weddings are beautiful ceremonies, but can be very stressful to plan, and even more so if you're going the DIY wedding route. But the honeymoon is where you finally get to relax with your new wife or husband and just let the stress wash away in the ocean waves. That is, of course, if you go to the beach for a honeymoon, which you absolutely should. Beach honeymoons are the most popular type, and for good reason. There's literally no greater feeling than sitting in the sun, one hand holding your partners', and the other hand holding your favorite tropical drink. What else could you need in life? There are a lot of beautiful beaches out there though, and it can be hard to rifle through travel websites to find out what you're looking for. So we've got a general list of the best beach honeymoon destinations for you so that you can narrow down your options to the perfect place.

Bora Bora

Bora Bora is straight up one of the best honeymoon locations ever. Who can resist those adorable overwater bungalows? Bora Bora has spiked in popularity in recent years, and it's no wonder why. It's a super tiny island so no matter when you go, it won't be overflowing with tourists. You'll always get your privacy. If you want to wander off the beach, it has awesome dormant volcanoes and lush jungles, along with super friendly locals. But honestly, it's hard to tear yourself away from those gorgeous beaches. The water is absolutely crystal clear and there's a reason it's been dubbed the "most beautiful island in the world."

St. Lucia

No, I'm not talking about the musician, although this place is well-known for its music. I'm talking about this gorgeous island in the Caribbean. St. Lucia is known for its wide variety of amenities, including zip-lining, music festivals, and of course, relaxing beaches. It also has some adults-only resorts, which is perfect for a honeymoon. Who wants kids screaming and running around when you're just trying to enjoy yourself? My top suggestion is the open-wall suites at Ladera, where the villas and suites have open walls facing the ocean and lots of beautiful nature views. These suites also have their own private pools and you can order a private massage in your room! This makes it one of the best beach honeymoon destinations for sure.

Bali

If you're looking for an Asian romantic getaway, Bali is the place to be. Their beaches are some of the best in the world, and the island as a whole rarely disappoints. White sand beaches are everywhere, and many of the villas you can stay in are overlooking a gorgeous cliff. You'd be hard pressed to find someone that didn't enjoy their stay in Bali, because it's just that heavenly.

U.S. Virgin Islands

There are three islands within this group, those being St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. All three offer something unique, but if you're looking for the best beach honeymoon destinations, St. John is probably your best bet. I visited this island when I was little and I remember the gorgeous beaches, friendly staff, and beautiful environment so vividly. There were activities in the water to play and friendly wild cats roaming the beach resort. If you're a nature lover in addition to being a beach lover, St. John is the place to be. The best part is, if you're from the U.S., you don't need a passport to go here! So yes, you can put off getting that passport a little longer if you don't have one already.

Fort Lauderdale

Looking to stay mainland in the U.S.? Fort Lauderdale should be your first choice then. It's super convenient to reach, cheaper than some of the other places on this list, and also happens to be the home of an amazing LGBT resort. I don't know about you, but that checks off all my boxes! The beaches are kept so clean and pristine year-round, plus you can have wonderful, relaxing spa treatments right on the beach! This city is also well known for its great places to eat, so no matter where you stay, all your moments off the beach should be full of good food with your partner.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the most classic beach honeymoon destinations, and it's easy to see why. Beautiful beaches, diverse wildlife, and sustainable energy all make this a super appealing place for you and your partner to honeymoon. With miles of nature trails and wildlife sanctuaries, Costa Rica is an ideal place for eco-conscious couples. Not to mention that they have a ton of toys for you to play with on the beach and in the water, including kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, and poolside sun beds. Don't forget your snorkeling gear either!

Hawaii

This whole state is a great spot, but the main island, Hawaii, is the best for beach honeymoons. This is definitely the spot you want to go if you'd like to see some more out of the ordinary beaches. There are beaches with black sand. Yeah, move over pink Bermuda sand, Hawaii's black sand is way more awesome. There's so much nature to take in on this ever-growing island, so you won't get that "tourist" feel that you might see on some of the other islands like Maui or Oahu. Trust me, you won't regret choosing the big island over its more popular little siblings.

Belize

If you want beaches that are super low-key, the beaches of Belize are your cup of tea. A lot of the resorts have pillows everywhere, hammocks hanging from every tree, and the place overall has the most relaxing vibe of all beach honeymoon destinations. Their spas are stuffed with extremely skilled masseuses, and you can snorkel with chill sting rays. If you want some more adventure, you can head to the rainforest where there are great hiking and zip-lining activities; but if I'm being honest, Belize is for ultimate relaxation. I'd look elsewhere if you're an adventurous type.

Jamaica

Half of the Jamaican economy relies on tourism, so if you chose to have your honeymoon here, you can feel good knowing you are contributing to their local economy. Not only will your mind be at peace, your body will be at peace the moment you and your partner relax in a chair on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. A gentle breeze, relaxing reggae music from local musicians playing, a cool yet cheap tropical drink... could you honestly want anything else? No? Didn't think so.

Greece

Last, and perhaps most surprising, Greece gets a spot on the list of the best beach honeymoon destinations. Of all the beach destinations in Europe, Greece's beaches are beautiful, charming, historical, and relaxing all in one. Although we're used to tropical drinks on the beach, why not trade it in for a glass of white wine? There are so many beaches here to choose from that you could visit a new one every day! The beaches in Mykonos are especially known for being quiet and away from tourists and kids, and some of them are so far away from it all that there is no electricity! Expect to rise and sleep with the sun, and I can guarantee that you and your partner will have a great time on the beaches of Greece.
