“DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE? YOU ARE A MANUSCRIPT OF A DIVINE LETTER. YOU ARE A MIRROR REFLECTING A NOBLE FACE. THIS UNIVERSE IS NOT OUTSIDE OF YOU. LOOK INSIDE YOURSELF; EVERYTHING THAT YOU WANT, YOU ARE ALREADY THAT.” RUMI

The story of I am not good enough started with the comparison. The comparison between different people who have achieved more than we have, with the comparison with ourselves from yesterday and today, with the comparison with the previous generation.

We are enough as we are. Sometimes I see personal development as a way of ripping people of their tranquillity, of their acceptance to whom they are. Balancing between strengthening your strengths and developing or working on your weaknesses, is a common action today. We see it in our jobs (we have personal development plans, career plans, personal development groups, workshops; all set up for us; we only need to show up), we see it in the movies, in the books we read, on TV, around us.

I want to question this personal development. Seems to me nowadays, everyone (in whatever field of operation they find themselves) can start a personal development group (and they usually do) for something to “develop”. As if we would be broken.

Here’s the definition:

“PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COVERS ACTIVITIES THAT IMPROVE AWARENESS AND IDENTITY, DEVELOP TALENTS AND POTENTIAL, BUILD HUMAN CAPITAL AND FACILITATE EMPLOYABILITY, ENHANCE QUALITY OF LIFE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE REALIZATION OF DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS.”

To be honest, if it is personal development, it should come from inside, not from outside. I do not believe in personal development courses and plans and especially plans. Let’s plan your personal development. That’s just surreal.

Personal development is exactly as the name states: PERSONAL. Not in group, not with a manager, not with the help of someone expert in business, in drawing, in acting, in whatever profession they have chosen. Portraying as an expert in arts for instance showing people how to develop personally using tools and techniques from art, for me, it’s just insanity. Choosing to attend such an event having in mind you are going to obtain personal development is like going to the hairdresser to get a haircut and expecting to come back home a stylist.

Personal development has taken it on the wrong way. Personal development cannot be a development if you plan for it. I plan that by the end of the next 3 months I will be more communicative, or more open, or be less emotional etc. You cannot plan how you feel and act. You cannot plan to change your personality or temper.

YOU CANNOT PLAN SMART FOR YOUR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT AND THINK OF GOALS IN RESPECT TO IT.

THAT’S ABSURD!

We must gain some clarity on what personal development intends on being for one person. Personal development is a mindset. It is a harmony that you allow for yourself with the world. It is something that is felt, and not planned to be felt. It is living in the present and experimenting it to be able to understand yourself, your vocation (something that less and less people talk about these days) and your echo in this world. We are beings, and as such, we must be in order to develop. When we plan for something, we create tasks to achieve it in a specific time frame. We do not let ourselves be in that moment, on the contrary, we plan on being something else. We divide activities to help us contour that into reality, into tangible outcomes. How can we plan to obtain and work on displaying a certain feeling and a new being with a clear personal development result? Not even meditation is trying to tell you to aspire to that nonsense. Are we planning on forcing ourselves to become a certain actor and become a role or are we personally thinking and accepting to reveal our authenticity to our own selves?

We are enough the way we are. Who are those people to us, to our destiny to tell us we are not good enough for such and such? What do they know apart from a certain way of acting? Why do we let ourselves demotivated by people who respond to our feelings, actions and behaviours we are not good enough?

We are good enough. The real purpose of personal development is to make you see that. A personal development is when you actively search information because you are interested in that, not because you are forced by your job or your manager or your parents or professors or someone else that is not you.

Personal development means to create your own positive affirmations to go by on this Earth. To live fully and completely. Vividly, patiently, in tranquillity.

Personal development is you being grateful for the Now moment. Personal development means to live now and experience whatever the present has now for you. If you cannot live in the present and you cannot enjoy it now, how can you possibly enjoy it tomorrow or in that future you try to plan your personal development?

Personal development is to make the best of what you have now.

Personal development is to purify your thoughts. This is when positive affirmations strike again.

Personal development is to stay in silence. To listen to yourself. To question yourself. To dive deeply. As your own heart and mind have the answers to the questions you have.

Personal development is when you can forgive yourself. That’s how you know how to forgive others.

“LOVE YOURSELF—ACCEPT YOURSELF—FORGIVE YOURSELF—AND BE GOOD TO YOURSELF, BECAUSE WITHOUT YOU THE REST OF US ARE WITHOUT A SOURCE OF MANY WONDERFUL THINGS.” ~LEO F. BUSCAGLIA

Personal development is exactly the opposite of what we are thought. Personal development is to accept ourselves exactly the way we are. We are all like the Moon, we all have a dark side we do not show. Personal development is pretty much as to being vulnerable.

YOU ARE BEING; A BEAUTIFUL PRESENT FOR THIS WORLD.

You are good enough and you deserve all the good out there.
