The Day the Router Died
The glowing blue light of the living room router did not just blink out; it felt as though it took the literal oxygen from the room with it. For Marcus, the silence that followed was immediate and deafening. His thumb instinctively scrolled against a completely dark smartphone screen, frozen mid-swipe on a social media feed that would no longer refresh. Across the room, his teenage daughter, Maya, stared blankly at her tablet as her high-definition video feed froze into an ugly, pixelated mosaic of unmoving colors. In the kitchen, his wife, Sarah, paused mid-recipe, her smart-screen refrigerator suddenly refusing to display the next culinary step. The smart home had gone completely dumb in a matter of seconds, and the family was left stranded in the quiet aftermath.

Robin's Art
Introduction I am not sure how I first became Facebook friends with Robin Grotjan, maybe it was through Mafia Wars, an addictive Facebook game that I managed to forget about. She had a joint acvount with her husband Ron who she lost to cancer but I was good friends with both of them, and am still in close contact with Robin.

Hard Rock Goddesses
Introduction I made the title singular just because it sounds better than what the plural would be. It seems that rock groups and rock and roll bands have been the domain of men throughout a lot of my life, but that is not the reality in music, give a girl a guitar and she can riff as well as any man.

A Hopeless Romantic's Guide to Decentering Men. ✨
De-centering men was my greatest act of self love. ~ unknown author. Women are taught, either inherently or intentionally, to center men from the day we are born. Even the birthing process itself can be considered male-centric, if you get the wrong doctor or practice. My mother tells the story of a traumatic birth when she had me: of a brusk, impatient male doctor, of requests falling on deaf ears, of an emotionally absent male partner.

weird girl diaries
hey get off the internet, I need to use the phone. Sixteen-year-old me was a force to be reckoned with. A product of her time, she was an emo kid to her very core. Her black box dyed hair was styled in a deep side part and side bangs, with stripey lavender highlight, of course. She spent her time holed up in her lime green bedroom, picking out the perfect song for her Myspace page, taking selfies with duck lips and her fingers in a peace sign, and waiting for her friends to come online on AIM.

How One Woman Uses Art to Make the Homeless Visible THE CHALK OUTLINE OF FORGOTTEN LIVES 🖍️ Maria Alvarez does not sell her art in galleries or display it in museums because her canvas is the sidewalk and her subjects are the homeless people who sleep on those sidewalks and who are walked past by thousands of commuters daily without being acknowledged or even consciously perceived, and Maria's art involves creating life-size chalk portraits around the actual sleeping positions of homeless individuals during the early morning hours before they wake, so that when morning commuters arrive they see vivid colorful artistic representations of human beings in the exact spots where they would normally see nothing because they have trained themselves to look through homeless people as though they were part of the urban landscape rather than human beings deserving of acknowledgment 🌆

The Vulture's Runway
High fashion doesn't discover culture; it bleaches it until the only thing left is the price tag and the name of a man who has never stepped foot in the dust where the pattern was born. "The clock has struck three, the coffee is cold, and the shadows are beginning to speak. Welcome back to the desk of The Night Writer. Tonight, we’re looking at a heist that didn't happen in a vault, but on the runway, and the loot isn't diamonds—it’s the soul of a continent." You see it on the cover of the glossies. You see it strutting down the carpet at the Met Gala. A "groundbreaking" spring collection from a fabled Parisian house, featuring vibrant, interlocking geometric shapes, bold concentric circles, and the recognizable rhythm of African textiles. The critics rave about the "fresh," "global" perspective. The price tag on a simple wrap skirt is $18,000. You are not looking at innovation. You are looking at a masterclass in elegant burglary.
