How to get to Hua Hin from other destinations in Thailand

Hua Hin is an enchanting coastal town with powdery sandy beaches, clear waters and cerulean skies by the day with plenty of beach activities and lively seafood restaurants. When the sun sets in its glory there are exciting night markets to keep you re-fuelled and entertained. Away from the beaches, there is plenty to see and do with magnificent viewpoints, scenic mountains, ornate temples and more. Don’t leave Thailand without visiting the beautiful and idyllic destination of Hua Hin.

Travelling from the capital city of Bangkok to Hua Hin

Many visitors arrive in Bangkok on their visit to Thailand as this is the capital city and there are many places of interest to explore in Bangkok. Hua Hin is situated about 200 km from Bangkok and many scheduled transport services are enabling you to get from Bangkok to Hua Hin which has become increasingly popular since of late among the locals and visitors to Bangkok.

Scheduled air-conditioned bus services are leaving from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal at 6.10 am, 10.10 am, 12.10 am and 5.10 am which take a little less than 4 hours to get to Hua Hin. For 230 Thai Baht, these services and efficient and reliable and even if you take the last bus, you still arrive in Hua Hin soon after 9.00 pm making it possible to check into your Hua Hin Villa with ease.

Similarly, Mochit New Van Terminal offers services by Vans or Mini Buses to Hua Hin leaving at 6.30 am, 10.00 am, 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm with the journey time being 4 hours also at 230 Thai Baht.

Getting from Bangkok to Hua Hin by train is also possible although in general train travel is slower in Bangkok. But due to heavy traffic congestion in the capital city, train travel may be a better option when travelling to Hua Hin. Train Number 171 leaving Bangkok at 1 pm gets into Hua Hin at 5.15 pm, using second-class tickets the cost is 402 Thai Baht which is considered value for money by guests at Avani+ Hua Hin Resort.

Travelling from Pattaya to Hua Hin

If you have been exploring Pattaya and want to also experience Hua Hin, the best option would be to use a combi method of ferry cum bus or van service. The ferry service from Pattaya to Hua Hin departs by 1.00 pm from Bali Hai pier. The ferry ride depends on the conditions of the Gulf of Thailand sea, generally being a two-hour ride. A standard ferry seat comes at 1,250 Thai Baht. Arriving at Khao Ta Kiab Pier in Hua Hin by 3.00 pm, the return ferry departs Khao Ta Kiab at 4.00 pm back to Pattaya.

Another option is to travel by bus using VIP bus services that depart from Northern Bus Station Pattaya daily at 11.00 am, the ride is six hours and costs you 510 Thai Baht.

If you want to get to Hua Hin faster a private minivan or taxi can be booked for a cost between 3,500 to 5,500 Thai Baht.

Getting to Hua Hin from Phuket

With a distance of 577 km between the two cities, it can be covered by bus, train or taxi spending about 10 hours of travelling. Using a direct bus service is the most economical and practical option as there are 5 departures daily at a reasonable cost of 913 Thai Baht.

The other option is to use the bus service and combine it with the train service from Surat Thani train station to arrive in Hua Hin which is about a 7-to-8-hour ride.

Savour the many attractions

Having spent a considerable amount of time arriving in beautiful Hua Hin, do indulge yourself by savouring the many attractions in this charming city.

Pa la U Waterfall – This scenic waterfall has a lot of fish and is an enjoyable location offering many moderate to challenging hikes. Additionally, it is also a great butterfly-watching spot for those interested in these coloured beauties.

Hua Hin Railway Station – One of Thailand’s oldest railway stations built during the reign of King Rama VI and is one of the country’s most beautiful railway stations.

Hua Hin Night Market – This popular night market is an exciting walking street with plenty of food, handicraft items and souvenirs.

Khao Ta Kiab Beach – This is a lovely beach with a giant standing statue of Lord Buddha, Rocky Mountains and lush greenery adding a fascinating backdrop.
