Andra is shootin', WVU, Ohio and Hoosiers win

Nov. 16

Seton Hall 87, LeHigh 77

Seton Hall improved to 2-1, while LeHigh suffered its first loss as Andra Espinoza-Hunter continued her hot shooting in the home victory, that included 529 fans in attendance. Espinoza-Hunter shot 4-8 from three on her way to 22 points. In the first three games of the season she has made 11 of her 21 three-point attempts, good for 52 percent. She's also scored at least 20 points in each contest this season. Espinoza-Hunter hauled down a season high 10 rebounds.

Seton Hall's Lauren Park-Lane continued her strong season as well, with 20 points, seven assists, two steals and a block. This was the second time in three games that the 5-6 guard has scored at least 20 points. Katie Armstrong led Seton Hall with eight rebounds to go along with 10 points, one block and a steal.

LeHigh was guided by Mackenzie Kramer's 23 points. Frannie Hottinger scored 15 points with six rebounds in the loss.

Indiana 72, Norfolk State 42

Aleksa Gulbe posted 22 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks after leading Indiana to its second win of the season. Norfolk State battled closely in the first quarter. The visitors trailed 17-14 after one quarter but Indiana took over in the second period outscoring its opponent 22-7 to take a 39-21 lead into the half.

Makenzie Holmes scored 22 points, shooting 11-15. Grace Berger flirted with a triple-double with 11 assists, seven rebounds and six points.

Deja Frances was the lone player from Norfolk State to score over 10 points. She had 12 points and also led the team with six assists. The Norfolk State defense did collect 13 steals, compared to Indiana's five. Six Spartans recorded 12 steals each.

West Virginia 86, Saint Francis 33

West Virginia dominated the inside outscoring Saint Francis 52-16 in its season and home opening win, Tuesday night. The Mountaineers shot just five three-pointers out of 63 overall attempts, where they made 55 percent of their shots from the field. Forward Esmery Martinez led all players with 19 points, shooting 9-14. She also paced West Virginia with seven rebounds in 25 minutes of action. Kirsten Deans made the only two West Virginia three-point shots, going 2-2 from long distance. She scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting. The guard from Greensboro, North Carolina, led the West Virginia defense with seven steals.

Yemiyah Morris came off of the bench to score 12 points in 11 minutes, shooting 4-5 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line. She led West Virginia with two blocks. Ja'Naiya Quinerly also came off of the bench to score 10 points and collect five rebounds along with four steals.

Madisen Smith led West Virginia with five assists with only one turnover.

Ohio 73, Cincinnati 62

After dropping its first two games, Ohio collected its first win of the season against host Cincinnati (2-1). The two Ohio based schools did battle in front of 1,723 fans as the Bobcats' Erica Johnson drained five threes on her way to 27 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals. Ohio's Cierra Hooks played a game high 40 minutes posting 21 points as she shot 10-13 from the free-throw line. Hooks shared the team lead of eight rebounds with Gabby Burris, who had 13 points and eight rebounds. Both teams struggled shooting under 40 percent, but Ohio won the game at the free-throw line. The Bobcats shot 18-23 from the charity stripe. Cincinnati shot 15-25.

Cincinnati got 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals from Jillian Hayes.

Michigan State 73, Valparaiso 62

Michigan State (4-0) failed to score 80 points for the first time this season but the Spartans still managed to win by 11 points in front of 3,524 fans at home. Nia Clouden scored 18 points with nine rebounds and seven assists in the win. Alyza Winton drained four threes on 10 attempts to score 17 points. Tamara Farquhar came off of the bench to post a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Valparaiso was led in scoring by Grace White with 22 points. She also led the team with six boards.

Cal State Fullerton 60, San Diego State 56

Last season Cal State Fullerton finished a miserable 4-18, not getting its first win until Jan. 16 and its second win Feb. 13. The Titans improved to 2-1 after beating San Diego State 60-56 at home. Cal State Fullerton dominated most of the night, before San Diego State mounted a serious comeback outscoring the winners 28-13 in the fourth quarter.

Lily Wahinekapu shined for Cal State Fullerton scoring 24 points. Aixchel Hernandez posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds off of the bench.

Nov. 15

Tennessee 52, South Florida 49

Tennessee gritted out another close win to improve to 3-0, outscoring South Florida 14-5 in the fourth quarter. Jordan Horston led Tennessee with 24 points, while Tamari Key had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots. Eoena Tsineke had 13 points to pace South Florida in scoring. Bethy Mununga led South Florida with 13 rebounds.

Kansas State 73, North Carolina A&T 49

Kansas State's (4-0) unbeaten season continued while North Carolina A&T remained winless. Kansas State center Ayoka Lee turned in another dominant performance with 31 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots. She shot 13-17 from the field in the win. Serena Sundell scored 15 points with seven assists and two blocks for the winners.

North Carolina A&T struggled putting the ball in the basket, going 21-70 from the field, including 1-8 from three. Chanin Scott led the Aggies with 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals.
