NFL Power Rankings Week 12
10. Browns (7-4) Browns have one of the top defenses in the league. Their defense has been so good that it has held their team together through adversity. They lost to the Broncos, which is why they are number ten. Even then, the Broncos had to knock the second-string QB out of the game. I don't think the Browns are done yet, and they are certainly playing like they didn't hear no bell.

Well, NFL fans, we made it! Thanksgiving has come and gone, and now we have reached the final one-third of the season, which takes the season into the pivotal month of December. This is the third year of the 18-week format, and it's the fourth year of the current playoff format that sends seven teams per conference into the postseason--four division winners (East, North, South, West) and three Wild Cards. As a result of this format, only the top seed will receive the conference's first-round bye.

On Friday November 2 John Jay suited up for Horace Greeley, and for seniors like Luca Duva, the finality was inescapable. “The last night of playing football, I left my heart on the field,” said the running back, and together, the Wolves didn’t let all the emotion go untapped.
Rich MonettiPublished 7 months ago in UnbalancedNFL Week 12 Recap: Overtime...Why Did It Have to Be Overtime?
For the recap of the Thanksgiving and Black Friday games that kicked off Week 12, click here. We all love overtime, don't we? Overtime means more of the game we love. This season is actually a milestone: it's the 50th season of overtime in the NFL. It was beginning in the 1974 season that the overtime period was finally introduced to regular season games; before that year, overtime only took place in the playoffs. It was purely sudden death until 2010, which was the year that playoff games received the OT rules that exist even now. Those rules would be instilled into regular season games in 2012, and it was in 2022 that the OT rules were changed again for playoff games. In any event, the overtime period in the NFL is amazing, and so many football fans love it.

On Friday October 27, Somers began their postseason defense of their New York State football title. Pelham on the slate, the number one standing seemed to hang over the medium sized crowd and put fans in a somewhat subdued mood. Like they had seen this movie many, many times before, the diehards had a pretty good idea how this night would end, and the outcome proved the home crowd exactly right.

Week 12 is not over, but despite this, I decided to split the recap into two parts, with this story centering on the Thanksgiving games, as well as the NFL's first-ever Black Friday game. One reason is that it'll be easier to cover each portion of the week, as everyone played this week, though because of the holidays, only 12 games are played on Sunday and Monday. Another reason is because I wanted to put a special spotlight on the four games, especially the Black Friday game.

10. Texans (6-4) The Texans are making their debut on the power rankings. This is the first time I have ever ranked the Texans in the top ten, but they earned it. CJ Stroud is turning the Texans around. He's what would happen if you mixed Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow. The Texans have taken out top teams and could be the AFC South's champions. Demeco Ryans has improved the defense, and CJ Stroud and the Texan's receivers have been a revelation on offense. Plus, the team has taken the same heart and determination they showed during Love's era and carried over to this one but with better talent. It's an exciting time for Texan fans because everything is on the table for this team.

Fans can certainly look at a schedule and know who are the stronger opponents and who are the weaker. So the game against Brewster on Friday October 6 probably had the home crowd feeling pretty comfortable. But while the notion may trickle down to the players, the mindset never changes at Somers, according to Matt Klee. “Every practice no matter who we are playing, we always give 110 percent,” said the lineman, and the diligence again translated to business as usual at the high school.

Nine months ago, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs faced each other in Super Bowl LVII, and it was quite the clash. One of the highest scoring big games in history, the Chiefs won 38-35 to capture their third championship, and their second with Patrick Mahomes. As for the Eagles, they licked their wounds and spent the months that passed preparing for payback. Finally, on the evening of November 20, 2023, the Eagles had their chance.

I still can't believe it! The 110th Grey Cup truly delivered and showed how absolutely epic the Canadian Football League is, as this year's title game pitted the Winnipeg Blue Bombers against the Montréal Alouettes--the first time these two teams are facing each other for all of the marbles. The Alouettes are looking to win their first Grey Cup in 13 years, while the Blue Bombers are looking to return to the CFL throne and become a dynasty--the first in over 40 years.

On Friday September 8, Somers began their home schedule and trailed Clarkstown South 6-0 with six minutes left in the half. An unexpected place for the state champs, events conspired to merit the slow start. “We had a tough practice week with the heat. We were out of our routine,” said Coach Anthony DeMatteo. “We’re a very structured program and we do things to the minute. So we were a little out of sorts - especially coming off a tough game last week.” But with a bang, the trunks got into the swing, and sanity ultimately came back to the Somers universe.

After beating Harrison 7-2 on Thursday October 26, Somers earned a berth in the Class AA finals versus Horace Greeley on Saturday. At Nyack High School, the undefeated, number one seed crossed the bridge and faced the possibility that they could lose some of the intensity to the traffic. The same went for a previous game that went into double overtime. No way, the girls had put in too much work to be distracted and simply stayed present, according to Julia Arbelaez.
