112th Grey Cup Recap: Long Overdue
The Saskatchewan Roughriders captured the Grey Cup for the first time in 12 years

There's a reason why I chose "Long Overdue" as my title. I'm way late for this recap--six months to be exact. I got caught up in a lot of other things in sports and TV that I kept putting off this recap for the longest time. With the new season coming up next week, I figure it's high time I take a look back at how the 2025 season ended.
The date: November 16, 2025. The place: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. But for the first time in seven years, it was not their hometown Blue Bombers representing the West in this thing. The West was represented by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who were in the Grey Cup for the first time since winning the whole thing in 2013, which was the first full season I watched. Representing the East: the Montréal Alouettes, who were two years removed from winning the whole thing, and almost got back there in 2024.
A rouge opened the scoring in the 112th Grey Cup, and it was Saskatchewan's single, putting them up 1-0. The first touchdown was scored later in the frame; a short run by Shea Patterson. Als led 7-1 after one quarter of play, but that's where the positives ended for the Birds. The second quarter was all Riders; two running TDs, one of them by AJ Ouellette, a Grey Cup Champion with the Toronto Argonauts a few years back. The scores put Saskatchewan up 15-7 at halftime, and that lead increased to 25-7 in the third quarter.
The Als did make it interesting with a touchdown late in the third, but could only muster a field goal in the fourth. The score was closer, but the Riders managed to hold on and win it in Winnipeg.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders defeated the Montréal Alouettes, 25-17, to win the 112th Grey Cup. For the fifth time in franchise history, and the first time since 2013 (101st), the Saskatchewan Roughriders are Grey Cup Champions. Amazing, isn't it? Two years prior, they were 6-12 and narrowly missed the playoffs, yet they went from that to being on top of the Canadian Football League mountain in just two years. Trevor Harris, the Riders QB, was named MVP, throwing for 302 yards in the victory. Samuel Emilus was named Most Outstanding Canadian, as he had 10 receptions for 108 yards.
This was quite a game between the Riders and Als, and the Riders truly showed out that night in November. And now, they are one week away from beginning their title defence. The 2026 regular season begins on June 4, 2026, and it will end at the 113th Grey Cup at Calgary's McMahon Stadium on November 15, 2026.
Per usual, I will have weekly recaps for this season, and as an Argonauts fan, I do have high hopes. I have to. We had a terrible season last year, so the way I see it, we have nowhere else to go but up. I was happy for the Riders when they won this, because they last won during my first time watching this awesome league. I am looking forward to what the 2026 season will give us, especially since it always helps make the wait for the NFL season just a little bit easier.
The road to the 113th Grey Cup starts very, very soon! And I am here for it as always! A belated congratulations to the Saskatchewan Roughriders for winning the whole thing; they definitely turned heads in 2025. Now we'll see if they can do it again in 2026. This upcoming season will be very interesting, I just know it!
