Recap of Track & Field in 2022

As the college track and field season has come to a close, we will take time to take a look at women in the sport who competed and made things happen in 2022.

Rayniah Jones - UCF

Rayniah Jones has thrived as one of the NCAA's top hurdlers, while also making noise as a sprinter. The All-American from UCF dominated the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships with wins in the 60-meter hurdles, 60-meters and 200-meters races. She competed at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships where she took the bronze medal in the 60-meter hurdles. Jones also ran a career best time of 7.21 in the 60 meters during the preliminary round of the NCAA indoor meet. During the outdoor season the Miami, Florida native won the 100-meter hurdles at 12.93, while also earning a third-place finish in the 100 meters at 11.41. For the second straight year Jones earned a spot in the 100-meter hurdles final at the NCAA Championships but had a disappointing DQ finish. Her school's 400-meter relay also competed in the final as well. In 2021, Jones was a silver medalist in the 100-meter hurdles in the final round of the NCAA outdoor meet.

Stacey Ann Williams - Texas

Stacey Ann Williams represented Jamaica at last year's Olympic games in the 1,600-meter relay and the 1,600-meter mixed relay. This year at Texas, the All-American sprinter took the silver medal at the Big 12 Indoor Championships in the 400 meters with a finish of 51.60, before claiming the bronze medal at the NCAA championship meet at 51.49. She also earned a silver medal as one fourth of the Texas 1,600-meter relay team. During the outdoor season Williams repeated as the Big 12 400 meters champion at 50.21. At the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships she ran a career best time of 50.18 seconds in the preliminary round, before finishing fifth in the 400 meters in the final at 51.13. She also earned a silver medal in the 1,600-meter relay as Texas finished second overall in team scoring.

Jalani Davis - Ole Miss

Ole Miss' Jalani Davis is an All-American thrower from Hampton, Virginia. This year, she earned a gold medal in the shot put with a mark of 17.69 in the SEC Indoor Championships. Davis collected a bronze medal in the discus throw at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet where she placed sixth with a career best hammer throw of 69.53. In 2021 Davis won her first medal at the SEC outdoor meet when she threw a mark of 17.52 in the shot put, taking the silver home. She qualified for the NCAA meet during the 2021 outdoor season in the hammer throw, discus throw and shot put.

Amber Jackson - UCLA

Amber Jackson completed her first collegiate season with a fifth-place finish in the high jump (1.71) at the PAC-12 Track & Field Championships during outdoor season. She collected two wins during the year taking first at the West Coast Relays with a season's best mark of 1.72 and at the USC vs. UCLA meet at 1.70. The 5-9 jumper was born in Atlanta, Georgia but attended high school in Charlotte, North Carolina at Ardrey Kell where she was a state champion.

Joella Lloyd - Tennessee

Joella Lloyd was an Olympian last year for Antigua and Barbuda. She came back to Tennessee this year and was a finalist in the 100 meters and 200 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Lloyd ran career best times in both events during the preliminary rounds. She posted a time of 11.08 in the 100 meters and 22.66 in the 200 meters. In 2021, Lloyd earned her first SEC championship with a 7.15 finish in the 60 meters, which is still her fastest career finish. Lloyd is the first Tennessee sprinter to ever win the 60 meters at the SEC meet.
