Recap of Track & Field in 2022
As the college track and field season has come to a close, we will take time to take a look at women in the sport who competed and made things happen in 2022.
Jasmine Moore - Florida
A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Jasmine Moore thrived in her first season at Florida after a strong start at Georgia. In five outdoor triple jump competitions, Moore had a perfect record including the first-place finish she had at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also won the gold at the NCAA meet in the long jump. Prior to the outdoor season Moore also swept the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Last year at Georgia Moore was a silver medalist in the triple jump and third in the long jump at the NCAA outdoor meet.
Alexis Holmes - Kentucky
One of the premier 400 meters competitors in the NCAA, Kentucky's Alexis Holmes became an NCAA champion in the 1,600-meter relay at this year's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She and her relay teammates set the NCAA record this season when they won the 1,600-meter relay at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 3:26.90. Holmes has been a well decorated performer individually as well. She won the 400 meters championship at this year's SEC Indoor Championships. It was her second SEC indoor gold medal as she first won one in 2020. Prior to attending Kentucky, Holmes, a native of Hamden, Connecticut was a Big Ten champ in the 400 meters during the 2019 indoor and outdoor season.
Lauren Hoffman - Duke
All-American Lauren Hoffman returned to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the third time. This year she won the bronze in the 400-meter hurdles with a third-place finals finish of 55.58. Hoffman, a native of Haymarket, Virginia, ran her fastest 400-meter hurdles time during the preliminary round at the NCAA meet, crossing the finish line at 55.47. She also competed in the 1,600-meter relay at the NCAA meet after winning ACC championships in the 400-meter hurdles and 1,600-meter relay. Hoffman took her first ACC gold during the indoor season leading her team to win in the 1,600-meter relay.
Haley Rizek - Pennsylvania
Haley Rizek had the most successful season of her career during her final season at Pennsylvania. She won the silver medal in the heptathlon at the Ivy League Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She scored a career best 5,377 points at the conference meet which is also the all-time best total in the history of the school. The native of Albuquerque, New Mexico finished her season as a competitor in the 400-meter hurdles in the 1,600-meter relay in the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Rizek also competed in the 400-meter hurdles at the East Preliminary in 2021. Next season Rizek will compete at Duke.
Saraiah Walkes - Eastern Michigan
A native of Manatee County, Florida, Saraiah Walkes found championship gold at her final meet of her freshman campaign. Walkes was a member of Eastern Michigan's 400-meter relay squad that won at the Mid-American Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She also scored points for her team in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 1,600-meter relay. During the indoor season she enjoyed a three-meet winning streak as a member of the 1,600-meter relay recording wins at the Wolverine Invitational, Akron-Indoor-Quad and Michigan Invitational.
