AFTER RCB, RAVI SHASTRI GETS OFFER FROM AHEMDABAD FRANCHISE FOR HEAD COACH ROLE

After the World T20, Ravi Shastri's ties with Team India will be broken. Rahul Dravid will take over as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. In such a situation, the question arises that what will Ravi Shastri, who came from commentator to coaching, do. Our partner Cricbuzz has made big claims in the whole matter. If reports are to be believed, Shastri will be seen in a new responsibility in the IPL.

The addition of two new franchises -Ahmedabad and Lucknow - will add an extra bit of competitiveness as the previous teams will be fighting against new contenders. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is going to be more exciting and grand as it will be a 10-team affair for the first time.

Team India’s outgoing head coach Ravi Shastri has been approached by the newly-inducted Ahmedabad-based IPL franchise for the role of head coach in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Currently, Shastri is with Team India until the end of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE.

According to a report on Cricbuzz, the CVC capitals have approached Team India’s outgoing coach Ravi Shastri for the role of their head coach. The report suggests that Shastri have told the franchise owners to give him some time as he wants to focus on the India team for the T20 World Cup and will make his decision after that

The Governing Council of the IPL had issued an Invitation to Tender (“ITT”) to acquire the right to own and operate 2 (two) new franchises. The bids were submitted by the authorised representatives of the interested parties at Dubai today. Pursuant to the tender process, various interested parties submitted their bids for the new franchises.

BCCI is pleased to announce the following successful bidders (subject to definitive documentation and other formalities being completed):

1. RPSG Ventures Ltd. – Lucknow (for INR 7090 crores)

2. Irelia Company Pte Ltd. (CVC Capital Partners) – Ahmedabad (for INR 5625 crores)

The new franchises will participate in IPL from 2022 season onwards subject to the bidders completing the post-bid formalities as specified in the ITT document. The IPL 2022 season will comprise ten teams and will have 74 matches, wherein each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches.

According to the reports published by Cricbuzz, CVC Capitals – the owner of the Ahmedabad franchise in the IPL – made an approach to Ravi Shastri and his supporting staff – mainly bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar.

If Shastri takes up the coaching role of an IPL franchise, he won’t be able to earn a direct commentary contract from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) because of the conflict of interest. However, he will be able to sign up directly with the broadcasters like VVS Laxman, who is associated with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL while doing commentary outside the IPL.

Owners of the new IPL team , recently, made an approach to the Indian coaches in Dubai, which fumed the speculations further. However, Shastri is focused on Team India’s campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and sought time to decide till the end of the tournament.

However, sources in direct knowledge of the development, have revealed that Shastri is open to a coaching stint with an IPL team even if it were to be at the cost of a potential return to commentary, an area where he has carved out a reputation himself for over 20 years, before taking up the coaching assignment seven years ago.

The 59-year-old is currently on his last assignment with the Indian team in the UAE for the T20 World Cup.After Shastri’s tenure, India’s batting great Rahul Dravid will take over the charge of Team India and his first assignment will be against New Zealand for three T20Is and two Tests.
