Abortion - something that is still branded as a 'women's right', and is still very hotly debated in today's society.

One film challenged the narrative on the issue of abortion, as well as changing hearts and minds on this issue, is Unplanned. Regardless of your stance on the issue; here are some reasons as to why you should watch it.

1) Unplanned is based on a true story.

Regardless as to whether or not people like that it is based on a true story, it is based on the memoirs of Abby Johnson, whom was the youngest director of Planned Parenthood, and worked there for 8 years. One day, she witnessed an abortion, and had an instant change of heart.

Despite the fact that it is a true story, it sparked outrage among critics and pro-aborts whom still deny it. Different articles spouted untrue and false information about the film, and attempted to advocate for 'women's rights' by stating that the film is propaganda, and is a gory mess (1) (2).

The film is a true story - anyone who rebuts this has seen the impact this film has had, and knows that it destroys the pro-choice narrative, and destroys all of their perceptions of abortion.

2) Shows both sides of the argument

Throughout the film, different arguments for and against abortion are presented, some by Abby Johnson before she became pro-life i.e. the classic 'it's a woman's right to choose', 'my partner left me, and I don't want to have any part of him in my life'. Another example is a scene where a teenage girl who came in for an abortion by her father (not her choice), due to being too young to be a parent. In the film, there are other examples, however, I will not give away too much!

As previously mentioned; Abby worked in the abortion industry for 8 years. This provides enough information to see what it was like working in the field and the work that was done from an inside perspective, before Abby converted to becoming a Pro-life advocate.

3) It highlights all the lies of planned parenthood.

The film highlights how riddled with lies and deceit Planned Parenthood is, and there are many more in the film. One of the biggest lies is, after Abby wins 'Employee of the Year Award', the former director states that the abortion facilities are expanding, and will therefore need to perform more abortions, and use the money to accommodate this expansion. When Abby questions this, she is pulled up by the director and humiliated for questioning it.

Going back to the previous example of the teenage girl whose father requested that she have an abortion, the girl was almost killed in the procedure. The abortion workers had to clean up the blood from her legs and the floor, and Abby lied to the girl's father stating that another patient had an allergic reaction to the medication, hence why it took longer than usual, and not that the procedure had gone wrong and almost killed her.

Unplanned is a powerful and poignant film that visually demonstrates the impact and devastation that an abortion has on women, and that there are better alternatives to abortion.

Some extras worth noting:

Abby Johnson now runs her own ministry called 'An Then There Were None' ATTWN, which encourages abortion workers to quit their jobs in the industry, and get counselling and help.
