It has been only a few days since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from being senior members of the royal family, but there are already some plans in place for their future.

Family Reunited

As of now Prince Harry, Meghan, and Archie are all together in Canada. For a while, they were separated. For instance, all three of them spent the Christmas holidays there. Archie was left behind with a nanny while the Duke and Duchess went back to the United Kingdom. After the surprising announcement that the Sussexes were stepping down on January 8, Meghan went back to Canada to be with Archie while Prince Harry stayed behind to meet with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Prince William.

After being separated from his wife for eleven days, Prince Harry joined his family in Canada on Tuesday, January 21. Duchess Meghan and Archie will remain in Canada, but Prince Harry will go back and forth for formal engagements.

Plans for the Future

It is still rather early after Queen Elizabeth posted a statement that she supports her grandson and his family as they are free "to start building a happy and peaceful new life." The transition does not officially take place until the spring of 2020, but some plans are already in place for Prince Harry and Meghan to pay back the $3 million for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage and to become financially independent.

They are not prohibited from earning their own money now that they are no longer senior members of the royal family and do not represent Queen Elizabeth. They are free to make money in ways they couldn't before.

Below are some plans the Sussexes already had in place and some new possibilities for their future.

1. Prince Harry's Documentary Deal

Prince Harry already had teamed up with Oprah on a documentary series about mental health that will launch on Apple TV+ later this year.

2. Meghan's Deal with Disney

Meghan has a voiceover deal with Disney that was recorded last year. The deal will benefit the wildlife conservation charity Elephants Without Borders.

3. Netflix's Interest

Now that the couple is free to pursue opportunities in the private sector, the streaming giant Netflix is said to be courting Harry and Meghan for a production deal like Netflix offered the Obamas when they left office. The Obamas completed seven projects for Netflix.

Netflix even suggested the Sussexes could be consultants for upcoming seasons of the popular series The Crown.

4. Meghan's Return to Acting and Lifestyle Blog

There is the possibility that Meghan could go back to acting if she and Harry agree to it. She left the television legal drama Suits when she became a royal. She was making $85,000 for each episode. Now that things have changed, her return could be possible with at a much higher fee.

Other than returning to acting, Meghan could also resurrect her lifestyle blog, The Tig. She loved it, but she discontinued it when she became engaged to Prince Harry.

5. Speaking Engagements

There could be a very big payday for Harry and Meghan if they accept speaking engagements. After President Barack Obama left office, he received $400,000 for delivering just one speech that lasted less than an hour.

Other high-profile speakers earn up to six figures per speech. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton still cash in on making speeches. Celebrities also get paid for speaking engagements.

6. Book Deals

The couple could get a book deal either separately or together. The Obamas received a record-breaking $65 million book deal with Penguin Random House in 2017. Hillary Clinton received a $14 million advance from Hard Choices in 2014. Musician Bruce Springsteen received a $10 million advance for Born to Run in 2016.

7. Paying Jobs

Prince Harry and Meghan could take paying jobs now that they are free to do so. They were not eligible to earn a professional income before the split. Harry's royal cousins are employed. Princess Beatrice works in finance, and Princess Eugenie works at an art gallery.

8. Far-Fetched Ideas

If the couple doesn't bring in as much money as they need as quickly as they need it, they could do what people in the private sector do. Some far-fetched ideas include selling some of their belongings on eBay, Craiglist, or Esty. After all, Meghan has a lot of personal fashions that belong to her and not the monarchy.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Net Worth

The exact plans for the couple's future are not known, but it doesn’t seem as if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have a money problem. As you have seen from the above list, there are plenty of opportunities for them to earn money and become financially independent.

They probably won't have to do so, but Prince Harry and Meghan could live a long time on the personal money they already have. Before Meghan married into royalty, she was earning from acting, endorsement deals, and sponsorships. Reportedly, her net worth is about $5 million. Prince Harry's net worth is about $31.5 million.
