It seems every time one racially-charged incident ends, a gender or religious controversy takes its place; Ruminate on the issues dividing our nation and world.

For a myriad of reasons, it's quite feasible that this will be my final blog post. No; I don't plan on going anywhere, necessarily.
Nefarious DarriusPublished 4 years ago in The SwampWhat's Wrong With Black Men?
This question is usually asked in articles written by black females. The reality in the answer is far deeper and is often times overlooked in general conversations and in the general dialog in the black community. When this subject is spoken on in a lot of articles written by black females it is usually written very passionately with “surface facts”(Surface facts are facts that can be obviously seen and can be proven and often times stand alone). When a black male is writing on this very same subject we have to pull history, psychology, and even refer to shifts in societal norms to further explain what is going with black men. The issues with black men are not of any type of epidemic proportion or anything like that, but more of systemic and societal changes.

Mention the word conspiracy in relation to the current “Covid-19” pandemic and the biggest difficulty people have in coming to terms with the possibility it could be true is the sheer scale of the operation… how could so many countries be party to such a plot?
Steve HarrisonPublished 4 years ago in The SwampIs Sweden Risky Strategy Really Worth It?
Denmark was among the first European countries to go into lockdown. Sweden went for the path of herd immunity, making it a rare case among developed economies to do so. There was no total lockout, and it advised but did not enforced strict social distancing.
Anton BlackPublished 4 years ago in The SwampThe Cycle of Poverty
Modern Western societies, such as The United States, put a huge stress on the idea that the mix of working hard and natural talent will lead to achieving any goal...sometimes even bragging that that is something our society allows. While that is a beautiful idea, the divide between social classes only continue to rise, making it harder and harder to reach the top. Social class shapes how one views themselves and how they view other people. So how then can one's socioeconomic status keep them stuck in a cycle of poverty? Could it be that a mind shift change is what it takes to pull someone stuck in a poverty cycle out and into a brighter future?

Reports of genocide, state-sanctioned violence and ‘n***** hunting’ are not what you would expect to happen in the 21st century, let alone at the beginning of this month.
Institutionalized Inequality
“Gender Inequality and Higher Education” (Article 1) and “American schooling and educational inequality: A forecast for the 21st century” (Article 2) both attempt to analyze the inequality that is present in the schooling system of the United States.
Confederate Memorial Day
Most every American knows about Memorial Day, also known as Decoration Day. This is the holiday on the last Monday in May, when the graves of Veterans are “decorated” with flags, flowers and wreathes. There is a similar observance that takes place on varied dates and is only celebrated in the southern states. This little known observance is said to preceed the one that all Americans observe. According to Wikipedia in the spring of 1866 the Ladies Memorial Association of Columbus, Georgia, passed a resolution to set aside one day annually to memorialize the Confederate war dead. Mary Ann Williams, the association’s secretary, was chosen to pen a letter inviting women from ladies groups in every former Confederate state to join in this special occasion.
Cheryl E PrestonPublished 4 years ago in The SwampThe Political Influence on Humanitarian Aid
Defined directly as the operation of “saving lives and alleviating suffering,” humanitarian action is the work carried out by people and organizations all over the world whose goal is to serve and support the most vulnerable populations (Whittall, 2015).
Health Policy Regarding Access to Medical Care for Refugees
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) defines refugees as people who have been forcibly displaced outside of their home or native country due to war, famine, or violence (UN, 2019). Around the world, there are approximately 258 million international migrants, and 763 million internal migrants (WHO, 2019).
The Humanitarian Crisis in Syria
In March of 2011, peaceful anti-government protests began in parts of Syria, inspired by the Arab Spring, a series of rebellions that were spreading across the Middle East. However, these protests were quickly and violently shut down during a government crackdown led by President Bashar al Assad. This restraint by the government promptly led to a full-blown civil war across the country. After just two months into this civil war, refugee camps prepared to open across the border in Turkey to provide relief for Syrian people who were escaping this national crisis (The UN Refugee Agency, 2019). Syrians began fleeing across the region and into other neighboring countries including Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, and even Egypt. They would find refuge in anything from temporary shelters or tents to parks if camps weren’t established. By 2012, Lebanon became the major destination for Syrian refugees, with Jordan close behind after having opened a refugee camp, Za’atari near the border, which was able to house tens of thousands of refugees (Staff, 2019). While this camp was only meant to be temporary, it still remains open to this day.
