Political Correctness Has Gone Too Far

Why it needs to stop and now.

I was born in 1987 which makes me a Gen Y. Political correctness has gone way too far. There are so many brands, songs, sporting teams and just everything that was ok for years, is now frowned up and classed as Politically Incorrect and forced by public pressure to change names. I learnt my nursery rhymes as everyone else did 'Baa Baa Black Sheep' definitely not 'Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep' and it doesn't matter who is up in arms, but I sing the old way to my nearly 3 year old daughter and will continue to do so.

Political correctness has gone too far and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be anywhere near stopping. From the recent cancellation or banning of 6 x Dr Seuss books to limits on what things you can say, that back when I was growing up was perfectly fine to say. What in the world has changed?? We need to stop mollycoddling the countries and bending every little thing to conform just because someone is upset. There is always going to be an issue with everything in today's world. But those things in the past have had no issues.

Changing brand names that have been around for years to things more suitable and inoffensive, is ridiculous. I ate Redskins and Chico Babies as a child and never once thought these sweets were racist. The same goes for Coon cheese, I mean seriously, it is named after Edward William Coon, not a racial slur. How ridiculous is the change of name 'Cheer Cheese' as soon as I heard it, I laughed. It is absolutely absurd. Now national sporting teams and bands are changing their names such as Dixie Chicks now The Chicks. When will the absurdity end! These were never issues when I was growing up. Why should they be topics of contention now?

I read online recently that it is no longer acceptable to call it a 'Christmas Tree' but 'Holiday Tree' in some places and 'Easter Eggs' have been changed to 'Spring Spheres'. I mean what the?? I am sorry but this is downright stupid. What is wrong with calling it a Christmas Tree, how long has it been called this, forever as far as I know. Again I will not hesitate saying Christmas Tree to my daughter and having Easter Eggs called exactly that. I agree everyone is entitled to their beliefs and opinions, but changing something that has been around for longer than generations and now deciding it is offensive, is over the top.

When will this madness stop, I don't want my daughter to grow up scared to say anything at all in case she offends someone. But I also want her to be able to speak freely and be able to be herself. All these issues, became issues because people had way too much time on their hands and wanted to cause controversy. Has normalcy and humanity become things of the past, where we dissect everything in the world and make it dumb and infantile. We are not children, we are adults and humans, and making everything like walking on eggshells is completely unnecessary if we want to raise normal children to adults.

If this continues, everyone will be walking around silently, for fear of offending anyone even with the word 'Hi' do we really want it to come to that? Do we want schools to not allow free thinking and creative works or to celebrate holidays? How will the adults of that time act or think? Think about it, I know I have and I dread thinking of the world my daughter will be an adult in.

It is true when anything can be offensive anymore. I do understand the concerns
