Letter to the Prime Minister

Dear Mr. Trudeau,

My name is Ayesha Hynes and I am 12 years old, I am writing to you today to speak to you about climate change and the crisis our environment is facing right now .Our world is in need of serious help and if WE ALL don't do something we won't have a world left to worry about! I want to talk to you about the things that I think should be addressed immediately.

Number 1-climate change, you can't deny that the climate is changing and all life on our planet is being negatively impacted. We keep destroying nature to build, new houses, new building, factories etc. Construction is responsible for a huge amount of greenhouse gasses and they are also responsible for 38% of CO2 emissions. Most of this is not necessary, we should be using existing houses and buildings and leaving the natural spaces we still have alone.

Number 2-animals, cows are the number one producer of methane gasses, the more cows the more methane gas is produced, factory farming is the problem, not only is it inhumane, it is literally destroying our environment in so many ways and all for that burger on your plate! I have been a vegan for 3 years now, if we all adopted a plant based diet things would be so much better for us, the animals and mother earth. Less demand, less damage...simple.

Number 3-single use plastic, the problem is plastics never break down and goes away, there are landfills full of it, it gives off terrible gasses which are slowly killing us and it is literally clogging up our water ways and killing animals. You need to put a stop to plastic being mass produced, instead we can use paper straws, reusable containers, home made covers for our leftovers, brown bags, we can make our own environmentally friendly cleaning products and put them in reusable containers, there are so many options and no excuse. Stop chewing rubber, oh I mean gum, this should be banned completely.

Number 4-polution, polution is killing humans, animals and plants! It poisons our soils and water ways and causes disease such as all types of cancers and respiratory diseases. There are many ways the average person can help with this too, public transportation, carpooling, not taking unnecessary trips, on land or in the air, update houses so they are energy efficient and not wasteful. There are so many small things we can ALL do that will make a huge impact.

Mr. Trudeau, this is where you come in, people have to be held responsible for their choices and the impact they have on the environment. Make these things mandatory at least to some degree for the general public. Create and enforce rules for big companies and factories and farms so they have a responsible environmental plan. We all have a part to play and I hope that you will think about this and make some changes so I have a clean world to grow up in.
