The Human's Rights Movement of 2020

By Heather FieldsPublished 4 years ago 4 min read
NOT MY PHOTO.

This is merely my research and opinions.

Beginning of 2020 has been more than a validated rollercoaster ride. We entered full of hope and desire, were quickly rushed into quarantine and a global pandemic, which led us to here; this human right's movement.

I want to first announce my position on this matter, as everyone's voice matters in this fight for change. I am a believer. I have been a resident of Indiana since birth in 1991, I love my state, I love my neighbors and my fate has led me to working with children and searching for answers, Journalism. I come from a racist family on one side, as my parents are divorced. I have lived both sides, as I'm still covering my Fight for Renter's Rights, of which we were one of the few white families. Black people have always been less than, and we've had enough of that. I have family that is black, I have friends and co-workers and members who are second and third mother's to me, who are black. It's so silly to even have to label it as that to make a valid point. We all bleed red, and I will stand in front of my brother or sister before they're touched, flat out.

If anyone did not see the posts or hear the story, which I find extremely hard to believe at this point, here's the backstory. Gregory Floyd was an evolving man who was murdered publicly by a white police officer. The officer dug his knee into Floyd's neck, suffocating him. Theories are he may have been in active heart attack due to his behavior beforehand; regardless, he was murdered publicly, along with many, many others before him. It's an epidemic and a seriously, stupid one, at that. My opinion, share by many, has turn into protesting, which in has returned with more police brutality.

I have, personally, witnessed the start of the first three protests in downtown Indianapolis. All peaceful until nightfall and after being gassed when no laws were being broken. We saw the police attack time after time before any violence started. And let me state this, this is NOT approving civilian's behavior in destruction, but they were being peaceful and were attacked. I need to understand WHY this happened. I need answers as to WHY and WHAT happens now? This same behavior was repeated for the following two protests- everyone peacefully, rightfully, lawfully protesting their anger and demand for change, are tear gassed and pepper bombed. In other states, civilians were being shot at, pushed, punched, ran over with vehicles and horses, slammed onto ground among other acts of violence or intimidation. However, this is our home, stop destroying the land you're trying to gain justice for.

The peaceful protestors, however, have gained so much love and connection, it's beautiful to watch. Every single Hoosier, arm in arm, standing for everyone's human rights, demolishment of Racism, peace for all of our brothers and sisters. We have seen gospel music and dancing on the streets, we have seen officers and protestors alike, on their knee, for George Floyd and all the victims of police brutality and racial discrimination. They walked with us, they reassured our voice and accepted our stories. Because there is good, and we need to acknowledge that, too. We need to stick together and fight this war together, it's only going to fail if we all put our all into it! This dedication was followed in Indiana and global wide, which brought us to the morning of June.

Last night, June 1, 2020, he enforced martial law. We have a curfew of 7 pm and have been told the military will be enforced upon us, if the National Guard cannot "quell" us and dominate our streets. Recent articles state that Governors are pushing back on that bill stating they're rejecting this command. At this time, I cannot reach an outlet to Washington DC to verify updates, I have been able to check into Los Angeles. The president is being told he is out of line with this command, it's stripping Americans of their right to protest. Theories are, the president is using these commands as scare tactics.

Along with protests, we have the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic. The coronavirus is a severe respiratory infection. A pandemic that would take over 100,000 lives in under three months. A pandemic that the president knew all along about, considered it harmless even though was warned repeatedly, and still refrained from stating the severity for longer than acquired. Abruptly, he stated he knew all along it was a pandemic, so admitting for months he led us to believe otherwise. Millions of lives could've been saved, had he concerned the well being of his citizens.

Our leader has failed us, that is the only summation. This story is growing.

We have laws, for a reason. We have rights, and we need to stay steadfast.

No one is above that law.
