Fighting the Good Fight
“The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in a period of moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.” — John F. Kennedy
That quote from John F. Kennedy is based on one in Dante’s Inferno and boy is it applicable to the recent events happening in the United States. On Friday, white supremacists marched on the Virginia Tech campus wielding tiki torches. I shit you not. The Internet got their jokes in (as they always do) because nothing is intimidating about a mob of preppy, privileged white kids supporting a disgusting cause — I guarantee it won’t get you laid. If you’re reading this, and you fall into the “preppy and privileged” category, I’m sorry that Julie didn’t kiss you during spin the bottle in 7th grade. Also, I’m sorry you have no moral compass.
As expected, other students at Virginia Tech counter-protested. My heart goes out to them. They deserve nothing less than the utmost respect. Going out of your way to stand up for what’s right won’t go unnoticed and you’re an incredible group of people.
Unfortunately, it didn’t stop there. There’s a state of emergency in Charlottesville, Virginia thanks to a Nazi rally. I’m going to call a duck a duck. What’s going on down there is domestic terrorism. And I’m not going to beat around the bush with some fancy political talk. There are multiple issues with what’s happening. First, the terrorism. Second, the police’s reluctance to treat it like a Black Lives Matter protest. Third, the President of the United States.
DISCLAIMER: If you (a) support Donald Trump (b) are racists and ignorant, you may want to close your browser because I’m going to ruffle your feathers and God forbid I make you mad enough to squeeze your Pabst Blue Ribbon can and get beer all over your computer. I don’t want that to happen, promise (wink, wink).
I’m physically sick having to write this. I don’t have a big voice, but I’m also physically sick at the idea of staying quiet when there is a fucking Nazi rally going on in our country. Donald Trump has an odd audience. I’ve written about it before. Some of the people voting for him had no idea it would be this bad. I know of a couple of them. The others are the people who live in parts the U.S. who have never been acknowledged by Democrats. Since I like calling things how they are, Trump appealed to the racist, bigoted degenerates who the Democrats were smart to ignore. I don’t ally with a political party. I side with morality.
Should I fight fire with fire by insulting individuals who insult others because of their beliefs? Probably not, but please see the quote in the subtitle. Plus, it’s for a good cause. Oh, and it’s also okay because I’m not a racist. I think that’s how that works.
I’m not the first person to be vocal about their disdain for the President:
YG ft. G-Eazy, Macklemore, "Fuck Donald Trump"
“Donald Trump is a chump.” — Kendrick Lamar, "The Heart Part IV"
“You say Trump don’t kiss ass like a puppet’Cause he runs his campaign with his own cash for the fundin’And that’s what you wantedA fuckin’ loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the buttonWho doesn’t have to answer to no one — great idea!”— Eminem, "Campaign Speech"
America needs people like this: those who speak up for what’s wrong. The irony is that the “leader” of this country doesn’t do that. He’s reluctant to talk unless it’s about Barack Obama or how the “fake news media” is tarnishing his image or some shit. Newsflash, Donald: that’s all you’re doing. (I’m trying to check my emotions, but it’s not going so well.)
The media didn’t make up a lie about you being on your private golf course for the 87th time so far. Yes, for anyone late to the program, Trump is not in the White House. Nor has he made any attempts to get back there. He didn’t leave his lack of empathy in Washington and it leads all of us to believe that Donald J. Trump is a white supremacist.
He went live to talk about the events. And it’s disgusting. His remarks are what encourages us to believe that the fucking president condones these acts (h/t CNN):
“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides, on many sides.”
Really? “Many sides?" What a fucking joke. That is referring to the violence inflicted by the Nazis, but also on them. Like, I can’t fathom it. Trump also neglected to explicitly mention anything related to Nazis, white nationalism or white supremacy.
But wait, IT GETS BETTER!
A reporter asked a White House official what Trump meant by “many sides.” Like us, they too were confused.
“The President was condemning hatred, bigotry, and violence from all sources and all sides. There was violence between protesters and counter-protesters today.”
This person literally regurgitated what Trump said. We’ve seen that before. Anyone in support of the president can’t think for themselves; if they did, their morality would show, and there’s no room for that in Trump’s administration. What makes it even more perfect is that the president walked out when the reporter asked. It’s a perfect storm. Even though it’s not good for the country, it’s impossible to deny that this man is a terrible human and you only get one chance to make a first impression. And anyone with half-a-heart can see that this is blatant ignorance.
I want to get away from politics and focus on the real issue(s): terrorism (and white supremacy). The same people who were elated when they heard about the Muslim ban don’t have enough brain cells to comprehend the fact that they’re just as bad as any Islamic extremist.
Thinking white people are superior is just fucking lame. It’s corny. Slavery wasn’t cool and never will be. The abuse thrown at minorities isn’t cool and never will be. I’m speaking directly to any white supremacist when I say that you’re the biggest cancer in this country.
“But her e-mails!”
Shut the fuck up and let me finish. Trump not condemning your act is an ego booster, but, ultimately, it’s you guys who are going to bring the country down.
“But Black Lives Matter is the same thing!”
Shut the fuck up and listen. When black people were protesting, they were protesting suppression. I’m a white man. White privilege is real. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Black Lives Matter is a movement that’s meant to draw attention to what’s wrong with this country and it’s significantly different from what’s going on in Virginia.
At the time of this writing, riot police haven’t been seen in Charlottesville. How long did it take them to get to Ferguson? It’s sickening.
Just because you’re a different skin tone than someone doesn’t mean you’re better than them. It feels weird talking to people like I’m a first-grade teacher, but those protesting likely didn’t pass the first grade. I’m just thankful I don’t have to talk in a baby’s voice.
White people aren’t the master race. Great societal contributions have come from all walks of life: Black, Asian, Latino, Indian, gay and lesbian, among others. Nobody’s racism has moved society forward. Remember when Hitler had the Holocaust? Remember how he then lost World War II and fucked Germany’s economy?
Hate doesn’t prevail and there’s an awful lot of it in America right now. As citizens, we’re going to get beyond it. But we have to do it together. The government isn’t helpful. Instead, look toward those with a big platform who believe in what’s right. This includes entertainers (Kendrick, Joey Bada$$) and athletes (LeBron James).
Fuck your “Heil Trump” chant. Fuck your Confederate flag. Fuck your evil desire to tear this country apart. Fuck you for your belief that others the dirt on your shoes. Go pick up a fucking book and learn something.
