Are You Ready For Biden Derangement Syndrome?

In this new post-Trump world, a lot is about to change - while staying very much the same. Already the pendulum has begun to swing. But, in doing so, it still seems to be mirroring the last 4 years. Those that loathed Trump seem to not see much in the way of fault in Joe Biden (at least during this honeymoon period), and those who were part of the Trump cult already see Biden him as a communist devil hellbent on destroying the United States. Sigh. Everything just flipped.

No, America doesn't seem to be on a road to unity like Biden would like to see. Sadly. Did no one learn anything from the Trump era??

In the last few years, a new catch phrase hit social media: Trump Derangement Syndrome. Heck, it even ended up on Wikipedia.

Trump derangement syndrome (TDS) is a pejorative term usually for criticism or negative reactions to United States President Donald Trump that are perceived to be irrational, and have little regard towards Trump's actual policy positions, or actions undertaken by his administration.

Now that Trump is out, and Trump supporters seem enraged by Biden for merely existing, it's fair to say we are entering a new era of Biden Derangement Syndrome. There will be literally NOTHING Biden will be able to do without someone on the Right getting upset.

The gist of the argument developing against Biden online is that he is an anti-American communist supported by China who is out to take everyone's guns, God and freedom. The guy has been in office for, what, a total of two days now, and already people are predicting the complete collapse of America. This hyperbole is both insane, and eerily familiar.

Even though Trump truly was a terrible guy on so many levels, a lot of the major fears around him didn't manifest completely. He didn't start a nuclear war with Iran as some were convinced would happen. Does anyone else remember #WorldWarIII trending on twitter when Iranian General Qasem Soleimani was blown to bits by an American missile in Baghdad? Fortunately, a war didn't start. In fact, Trump didn't start any new wars, which is definitely a plus on his side.

For the last 4 years, a day did not go by without Trump being compared to Hitler. We kept being told that Trump was a fascist and America was becoming a fascist state led by a brutal dictator. Never happened. America is still a strong democracy. Yes, a pretty pathetic little "revolution" did happen at the Capitol Building in Washington DC on January 6, and Trump is pretty much solely to blame for that. But, in the end, Trump left office after being elected out, with his tail between his legs. Democracy did prevail. The checks and balances worked. America did not collapse. It did not turn into NAZI Germany 2.0.

No matter how much many Trump haters would have liked to have blamed him for literally everything bad that happened in the last 4 years, not everything could be pinned on him. And, Trump's fans got sick of the rhetoric against their Dear Leader and developed the whole Trump Derangement Syndrome concept to kind of shut those folks down.

But, now, we got Biden who is currently being heaped with praise and adulation by many Democrats. He hasn't managed to draw much ire from Trump weary Dems and Democrat-leaning media outlets. It isn't Trump levels of cult or personality, thankfully. But, at the moment, some of the love is a bit over the top. And, in response, there are those on the Right who are desperately trying to portray Biden as the next Mao or Stalin who is out to turn the US into a communist state. Sigh.

From one extreme to the next. Unfortunately, this is the kind of polarization that America really needs to work on. Going from Trump Derangement Syndrome to Biden Derangement Syndrome in one day flat isn't progress in terms of unity. It's just the same craziness repeating itself. Biden has a lot of work to do to truly unify America and get rid of derangement all together.
