A Letter To The World

We Have The Power To Inspire Change

The Beauty Of Earth Is Astounding, And Is Worth Saving

Climate change is responsible for many of the disasters that occur in the world, whether it be wildfires in Australia, Tornados in America or floods that sink Venice. Despite clear evidence provided by many individual scientific studies appearing on a weekly basis, there still remains a large proportion of the public who entirely disregard the effects the human race has on our home - Planet Earth.

I do not wish to lecture you with facts and figures, they fall on deaf ears and leave the situation in the same state as it was at the beginning of the article. I wrote this to change the viewpoints against global warming or that one person cannot make a difference - they can.

To those who believe that climate change doesn't exist, or believe it's just a 'natural correlation' of atmospheric CO2, I ask you this: Would a bee that inadvertently kills a plant continue to do so even after realising its methods were flawed? Or would a Physicist continue on the same methodical approach despite observed values differing greatly from those proposed? The answer (astoundingly) is no. Recognising flaws in ideas and methods is what allows the human race to develop and improve, it then seems ridiculous that the same cannot be said about our environment.

We've all seen the facts a million times, and a million times nothing has been done. Reciting the same information clearly doesn't seem to resonate with those whom have the power to instigate this change, even masses of protesters flocking from city to city are swept away by politicians. It seems as if world leaders are too absorbed within their own climate-free bubble; this is the attitude that has to change before progress occurs. That being said, the power still remains with the people to inspire change from everyone, from politicians to scientists; this inspiration could lead to centuries of advancement even beyond the front of climate change.

Scientists create incredible solutions to a plethora of problems constantly, with the correct funding for research, climate change could be prevented and possibly even reduced back to safer levels. As I write this piece, CO2 capture systems are being invented, tested, improved to intake atmospheric carbon dioxide and recycle it into something useful. Yet these achievements will falter into insignificance if the human race do not change their ideologies and daily lifestyles. Sure, carbon capture will reduce the effects of Global Warming, but what would be the use if we continue to pump more carbon and particulates into the air from fossil fuels, or the use of a bio-degradable plastic if the planet is littered with non-degradable plastics.

To make a real difference, real change needs to occur. We need to move towards stable, clean energy sources, retire fossil fuel transport abandon harmful plastics, prevent leaving it too late for a difference to be made. Governments need to fund research into various clean energy sources, develop better, environmentally-friendly materials, educate people on the dangers of climate change, and the personal adaptations that come with preventing it. Politicians need to change this dangerous view that opposes all evidence presented towards them, and people cannot lose hope in saving our home. Only if all people rally together towards one unified goal can progress be made and maybe, just maybe, we can change the world for the better.

You have the power to make a difference.

You can instigate change.

It is up all of us to inspire the next generation of problem-solvers, policy-makers and curious thinkers. And with that, I leave you to decide. What difference can you make towards fixing our Environmental Catastrophe?

Time is running out, and when it's gone, we'll be gone too.
