Over the years, wars have inspired hundreds, if not thousands, of tales that continue to be classics today. The ancient world had stories like the Trojan Horse and The Illiad. These days, most of the stories we see about war involve epic war movies, movies about Navy SEALs, or just television shows involving soldiers being soldiers.

Since most of the stories you will hear about tend to be feature-length films or just major TV series, you might end up missing out on all the fun action offered by mini-series. If you've run out of war movies to watch, check out this list of the best war TV mini-series ever made.

This 70s classic is one of the best war TV mini-series ever to air about WWI fighter pilots. The series has it all—great heroes, action-packed scenes, cool uniforms, and an amazing storyline that'll keep even the most laid-back viewers on the edge of their seat.

Wings follows a blacksmith's son who wants to become a fighter pilot during the Great War. Its great writing received an impressive 8 out of 10 rating by IMDB.

Danger UXB was another mini-series that was aired during the 70s that developed a cult following for decades afterwards. The series was known for having stoic WWII bomb disposal unit members facing the potential of imminent death, during one of the bloodiest wars in human history.

Few war TV mini-series are as realistic about dangers faced by troops like Danger UXB is. The filming and creation of the series was so involved, a documentary was sparked by the behind-the-scenes action later on.

Most people would recognize Das Boot as the title of one of the best war movies of all time. What many people don't realize is that Das Boot was also released as a war TV mini-series that was, in total, twice as long as the movie release.

If you want to see more from the movie, or to check out the alternate ending of the film, you need to check out this mini-series soon. Sure, war's lesson is never learned, but still—it's a great series.

Anzacs is one of the most famous war TV mini-series on this list, and that is partly because of the show's excellent cinematography. The show focused on what life was like for Australia's Anzac crew during the Great War.

Great writing, a cool look at one of the more overlooked slices of WWI history, and excellent acting made it a classic almost as soon as it was released.

If there's one title you'd never expect to be associated with classic war TV mini-series lists, it's Piece of Cake. However, that's precisely what this great mini-series devoted to showing the life of World War II soldiers from the Hornet Squadron.

Air combat life looks a bit glamorous in Piece of Cake; and to a point, almost makes us feel jealous. But, its grit and great acting still keeps a bit of realism in the ugliness of war.

To a point, Sharpe was bound to be way different from other war TV mini-series on this list. It doesn't feature talks about World War II Europe, nor does it detail some heroic mission in World War II history. It's not even involved in civil war.

Rather, Sharpe focuses on soldiers during the Napoleonic Wars. If you're looking for a very complex and suspenseful series, then you'll enjoy Sharpe.

Horatio Hornblower is a soldier during the Napoleonic Wars—and he keeps it as dashing as can be. Perhaps one of the only war TV mini-series regularly mentioned by women, Hornblower is equal parts war epic and eye candy, for women who love a man in an 18th-century uniform.

Without a doubt, Band of Brothers is one of the most successful and famous war TV mini-series of all times. It's inspired its own fandom, has hunky actors, and also offers enough drama to make viewers of all walks of life watch it.

For those not in the know, Band of Brothers is a mini-series based during the World War II that follows the lives and deaths of a number of tight-knit infantry members during gruesome battles.

The Pacific is a newer series that regularly gets compared to Band of Brothers, but that's not necessarily fair. Unlike Band of Brothers, HBO's The Pacific is a war TV mini-series that is focused on the stars' individual lives as they fight their way through World War I.

For people who want to really get into a character's head, The Pacific is a must-see. It's stressful, tense, and incredibly action-packed, while still keeping things realistic.

If you're sick of World War II and other wars that you've only read about in history class, we can't blame you. That's part of the reason why Generation Kill is as popular a war TV mini-series as it is.

Instead of looking into the past, this series looks into the lives of soldiers in the Iraq War—and more specifically, into Iceman's world. Iceman is based on a real soldier, which makes Generation Kill all the more fascinating.
