Have questions about creating stories, growing your audience, and getting rewarded on Vocal? The Vocal community and team are here to help answer your questions and feedback together.

Every Tuesday at 12 PM ET, we'll assemble the Vocal community, as well as our Creator Experience and Product teams, in a thread to respond to creator inquiries for one hour.

Please follow Vocal’s Community Guidelines and don’t spam your own profile or stories in the thread. We encourage the community to report users or comments that break these guidelines.

Some updates and reminders from the Vocal team:

  • Vocal is officially on Discord. We are taking community to the next level by giving you a new way to share your work, chat with other creators, and shape the future of the Vocal product.
  • We launched our Dancing with Distraction acrostic poetry Challenge.
  • We are about to launch 4 brand new Communities: Art, History, Humor, and Men. There will be special bonuses for being an inaugural contributor, as well as Challenges for each community. Stay tuned for more details this week.
  • We have received several complaints about plagiarism and want you to know that we hear you. Every day we are testing new methods to prevent the publication of plagiarism and spam. We understand that the onus for moderating these bad actors should not rely on our wonderful community of creators, but we also need your help. We are adding a Discord channel for reporting plagiarism and spam, will continue monitoring reported stories directly on the site, and are implementing new moderation flows to combat this issue.
  • The Vocal Merch store is launching on June 15th.

Got questions about Vocal or feedback about what’s new? Leave a comment in this thread to join the Vocal Creator Chat.

Also, be sure to join our Raise Your Voice Threads every Thursday at 12PM ET to champion inspiring stories and outstanding creators on Vocal. Save it to your calendar so you don’t miss it.

Muhammad Nadeem was able to create a new account AND plagiarize Dharrsheena's Top Story AGAIN! Plagiarist's new account: https://vocal.media/authors/muhammad-nadeem-16zx0e38 Plagiarized Work: https://vocal.media/poets/she-only-had-herself-8h11k0qtx Dharrsheena's Original: https://vocal.media/poets/she-only-had-herself Here's another plagiarist too. This one stole Leslie's Top Story. Plagiarist's Account: https://vocal.media/authors/malik-mubeen-377f0xov Plagiarized Work: https://vocal.media/feast/unveiling-the-enigma-what-s-the-deal-with-american-cheese Leslie's Original Work: https://vocal.media/feast/what-s-the-deal-with-american-cheese We are wasting so much time finding and reporting these guys to Vocal. Vocal needs to build up an effective Moderator Team because they either understaff the team or do not have one. Get rid of these plagiarists.

For the special launch of the men's community, please do consider reaching out to me. Tom and I worked on that idea together. It was featured in his spotlight. I'd really love to be able to help with this if it's going to be dedicated to him.

  • While I am all for progress and some new communities I wouldn't want things to get dissipated by having too many. Tags are a good way to create a community matrix so stories can sit in more than one area when you look for them. I think we need to be able to filter searches to find what we are looking for. Vocal is about reading as well as creating. There have been some excellent suggestions today

I assume this is probably one of the things vocal might be looking into, but I just wanted to mention it: years ago I used to write on wattpad, and their website doesn't allow any copying from a story, unless you are the author and in editing mode. This I think would disway most of those who copy others' works, because they wouldn't put the time I'm to type the story up, if they can't just copy and paste. Of course there are other ways they might be able to copy the work without having to type it up, but I'm sure most of them aren't tech savvy enough to do that. I'm assuming something like this is a significant structural change so I don't know how feasible it would be. Just an idea.

Not sure if it's on the road map already but would be great to be able to unpublish work. Some pieces are written purely for challenges but then are no longer needed or you no longer like something you've shared.

Just wondering if fan fiction is aloud, cause' that will be pretty cool. But with fan fiction we're taking money and fame from other people's ideas.

I do think that new free accounts should have a longer wait time to be published. This morning I found the same story plagiarized 2x in the same category by two different authors with hours of each being published. Most of the plagiarized work is still coming from free accounts which are new. If a writer with a free account has been on the platform for say 6 months they do not have to wait to be published. If they are new and free their stories need to curated much more intensely to make sure they are not copying someone else's work. Say a five day wait time. It would definitely crack down on a bit of this nonsense. Thanks

Sorry I’m late to the chat! Would there be a way to add the ability for us to edit our titles/subtitles after publishing, maybe even the community they were published to?

  • Babs Iverson11 months ago

This is about to close! Aloha everyone!

  • Ashley Lima11 months ago

I really wish there was a way to filter notifications! I'm subscribed to many creators, so sometimes comments on my stories and interactions on my own posts get drowned in post notifications.

Has Vocal done away with $50 bonuses for 50 stories? I was told that my account doesn't qualify and am not sure what the requirements are. Thanks.

  • KJ Aartila11 months ago

I was wishing for the possibility of adding a community for Youth/YA stories.

  • The new communities will definitely give me a challenge. I am excited to see what everybody creates.

  • J. S. Wade11 months ago

Ideas are ideas, good or bad, but may at least spawn a better one. Is it possible to make content non-copiable by anyone except the author/Vocal? It would at least slow down the plagiarism and make it more difficult.

Can there be a trans community to discuss trans issues and create trans stories I know there is a Lgbtq community and pride but I was wanting a trans community

  • Lena Folkert11 months ago

Sorry if this has been answered or asked previously, but I’d love to have the ability to tag a creator in my stories and have it alert the creator. I see the uptick in possibilities for tags in the comments, but I would love this ability to highlight creators when I write a favorites list or write about a creator or etc. Is this on the roadmap or a posssibility to add to it?

  • L.C. Schäfer11 months ago

Are the Sensational results landing today? Any idea of an time approximate time, purely so I don't break the refresh button.

  • Deasun T. Smyth11 months ago

I'm very excited about the new Communities, Art, History, Humor. You'll see me write a lot in those Communities.

  • Loryne Andawey11 months ago

With respect to the new Communities being created, I am interested in what the community dedicated to men will be titled. I've learned that there were many advocates for that space, including the late Tom Bradbury. He and the Vocal Creators Chronicle were very, well...vocal on bringing this space about. There were two names bandied about. One was "Stetson" and was first championed by Tom in his article https://vocal.media/humans/a-cowboy-is-more-than-its-stetson A more gender neutral name was "Hiraeth" and was championed by both Tom and the writers of The Vocal Creators Chronicle here: https://vocal.media/journal/a-community-for-all-hiraeth I would be interested if Vocal/Creatd would consider the ideas of their Creators in naming the men's community either Hiraeth or Stetson, much as Vocal/Creatd does when releasing new writing Challenges inspired by their Creators. Thank you.

Wonderful new improvements and evolutions. I’m so pleased to hear about the new innovations for plagiarism and the new Discord. And I think the Art and Humor categories are going to be my new favorites! As far as the plagiarism is concerned, there are existing Vocal creators who are well established members and leaders in the community who have received a lot of recognition by Vocal and Bonuses etc. Is there any thought to how Vocal might handle these established creators’ history of plagiarism? Will they be banned or simply penalized, etc? And going forward, does Vocal intend to help the newer or naive creators understand the various aspects of plagiarism and how to avoid it in their own work? I have published a story about it in the past, but i see a lot of mosaic plagiarism and while there are relatively few who do this by mistake, I think it’s important that Vocal set an established standard for their community because there are so many younger, foreign language speaking, or simply uninformed creators on the platform. Transparency about what exactly Vocal is looking for and what your expectations are for the creators will be key for helping the well meaning and uninformed creators avoid plagiarism and will help the Vocal community creators be better prepared to spot it. Is there a plan for a resources guide on Plagiarism, a need for creators to contribute, and would existing articles be considered for this? Sorry for the long comment and multiple questions 😅

In light of the rise of plagiarists, spammers and general problematic actors using this platform, will Creatd/Vocal consider hiring more staff or invest in technology to improve their current Moderator Team? The ability to report via Discord is a nice addition, but it still relies on Vocal Creators to be vigilant and not on Creatd/Vocal to actively moderate on their end. Right now, it feels like the company only reacts when we complain. In addition, the following plagiarists still have active Vocal Platforms: Mubarak Abdulsalam: https://vocal.media/authors/mubarak-abdulsalam This creator took down all their work when Vocal Creators called them out on their plagiarism. Muhammad Nadeem https://vocal.media/authors/muhammad-nadeem-y1na0u65 They plagiarized Dharrsheena's Top Story of the same name, though fudged around with the wording to make it seem original. Tabish Malik: https://vocal.media/authors/tabish-malik They plagiarized Em's Top Story and retitled it as "Embracing the Power of No: Mastering the Art of Rejection." Like Muhammad did with Dharrsheena, Tabish fudged around with Em's original wording to make it look like they did not blatantly plagiarize them. Why have they not been taken down yet?

I've got a problem with vocal on the account that I cant open my stories that I've liked. don't know of it's just a problem with the website, or that you can fix it.

Glad to hear about the discord plagiarism channel. Judey had a great idea for that! Two things: 1) Can we please get some content warnings tag options on all communities like I and others have asked for since adding tags seems to be pretty easy (like the new microfiction ones) 2) I know it was a long weekend but I sent two draft articles through that form for resources last week and I’d love to hear back soon on whether you want either of them… because I want to publish them asap if not. Thanks!
