Wasted five years at Manchester United? Looking back on Pogba's Manchester United career, after all, is not a "wild child.

Pogba admitted that he could play in a more familiar position with France, but in more than five years at United, he did not enjoy such treatment.

With his contract at Manchester United about to expire, Pogba has little to fear. After leaving Manchester and returning to France for training, Pogba spoke up: I didn't have a permanent position at Manchester United, Paris was a good choice, five years at Manchester United didn't satisfy me, I made a lot of money but I was depressed because of a bad relationship with Jose Mourinho and so on.

One thing became clear to United fans over the course of the day: Pogba was definitely going. There was no wiggle room.

Pogba is choosing his next home

The irony is that Pogba and Mourinho were so torn apart, but it was only during his time with Mourinho that he won the title at Manchester United, and the Europa League title with Mourinho was the only European trophy of his career.

Perhaps it all started with that fantastic season in August 2016 when Juventus bought back Pogba for more than 100 million euros.

16/17: Manchester United aim for revival

On May 27, 2016, Mourinho took over after a hiatus at United, which had been sliding downward from the top clubs in Europe through the successive David Moyes and Louis van Gaal eras following the retirement of Alex Ferguson.

But United still has something to offer: money, and Mourinho.

So, relying on these two, United began to absorb top stars to play for the team, Pogba to Manchester United, Zlatan Ibrahimovic to join the United visa-free, is considered to be the key to the success of the season!

Mourinho led the team to the Mini treble

In a season of competition, United won first the Community Shield, then the League Cup and finally the Europa League, especially the Europa League, making United the fifth team to win the European Grand Slam.

It has been a successful season. Even if United finish sixth in the Premier League, they still have a chance to win the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

Pogba has obviously had some adjustment problems this season. He has scored nine goals and six assists in 51 appearances /49 starts for United, significantly lower than his Juventus figures, but he is a top midfielder and is trusted by Mourinho!

However, Pogba recently felt that this was the beginning of his depression, as Mourinho would not allow him to play in the position he was used to, while also undermining his confidence.

2017/18: The beginning of the collapse?

After winning the cup again, United brought in three stars: Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.

Lukaku has been brought in to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, simply because the Swedish star has been plagued by injuries and was part of the squad on crutches when United won the Europa League.

Lukaku's arrival is also interesting. In the summer of 2017, the players will be holidaymakers all over the world, while Pogba chose the United States. Coincidentally, Lukaku was playing next door to him at Everton, and coincidentally, they both have the same agent: Raiola, who could create a stir in European football.

The two players had an excellent relationship at the time

Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku have become one of European football's biggest summer transfer stories of 2017.

Sure enough, Lukaku eventually joined Manchester United and everyone thought it would be the beginning of United's rise, but after a perfect start (six wins and one draw in the Premier League), United fell off a fast track, played very inconsistent and were often beaten by the underdogs.

With the unstable results, some problems within United have been highlighted. One is the arrival of Sanchez in the winter window. The Manchester United management has amateurishly included his signature fee into the weekly salary, resulting in a rise in Sanchez's weekly salary, which has disrupted the balance of the United dressing room.

Secondly, Pogba and Martial did not like the high pressure of Mourinho. The internal problems of Manchester United appeared, but the management did not intervene in time. In the final FA Cup final, Manchester United lost to Mourinho's old club Chelsea, which aggravated the contradiction again.

Pogba's relationship with Mourinho has plunged into deep freeze

In 33 starts and 37 appearances, Pogba has scored six goals and provided 12 assists, arguably a better performance than last season, but it was a season in which all was lost.

18/19: Tear the skin off and welcome Soshaw.

In an unusual move that many fans are now talking about, Mourinho has become the number one choice in the top five league tables before the new season has even begun.

Not only did United fail to meet Mourinho's request for a transfer, Martial also left the team before the final game of the pre-season because his wife was expecting a baby, but he was still not back. Mourinho complained in the press conference, and Martial immediately hit back at Mourinho on social media.

It soon became clear that while Martial's wife was expecting a baby, he was also involved in a scheme that resulted in Mourinho handing out his only fine as a Manchester United manager and breaking up with the club's French side.

Pogba prints after Mourinho's class

The conflict broke out into the open, Mourinho was forced to accept hush money and Pogba appeared to be recovering from depression.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival sparked Pogba's enthusiasm and United quickly won eight games in a row, with Pogba completing his finest season for the club, scoring 16 goals and 11 assists in 47 appearances.

At the same time, however, Pogba and Lukaku appear to be less close than they used to be, and Lukaku eventually agreed a deal with agent Raiola.

This season, Guardiola himself admitted that Raiola had recommended Pogba to Guardiola.

2019/20: An injury-hit year

In 19/20, United struggled, but Pogba suffered serious injuries and only made 22 appearances, scoring only one goal and three assists.

It has been a disastrous season for United and Pogba, but the good news is that they are back in the Champions League.

As for United, the fans still believe the team can succeed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

2020/21: Annual renewal of contract

This year, Pogba officially came to the contract year, Manchester United did not want to complete the contract extension with Pogba, but the two sides have not reached an agreement, and Pogba every year in the transfer period to make trouble, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City have been his target, but Manchester United has not released.

Paul Pogba has signed a new contract with Manchester United

It was another sad season in which Pogba made 31 starts in 42 appearances as United finished second in the Premier League and reached the Europa League final, where they lost to Villarreal.

The departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a source of concern, as United's form has fluctuated over the last few games of the season and Pogba's tally of just six goals and six assists has come into question.

But United still triggered a one-year extension option through the five-plus-one deal the two sides once agreed to, and Pogba will remain at the club, but his prime has done little to help United win, while year after year of off-field incidents have left Pogba with a diminished base of supporters.

Season 21/22: A season that is completely over

When Pogba was asked how he felt about his time at United, he was blunt: No, because the season has ended prematurely and he has not won anything.

Pogba scored his first goal in the first game of the season, but he was hampered by injuries and did not do much until Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

When asked why he has done better in France, Pogba admitted that he has been able to play in a more familiar position in France, which he did not enjoy during his five years at United.

Nor did Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Pogba's words were a rebuke not only to Mourinho, but also to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has often defended him since then, and to the current interim United manager Rangnick.

In addition, Pogba once said that "the air is sweeter in France" to describe the difference between the national team and United. He and United seem to support each other until today, but in fact, Pogba has long been estranged from United.

Pogba has scored one goal and provided nine assists in 23 appearances for United so far this season, and everything about him is fading fast.

Conclusion: Was Pogba's time at Manchester United worth it?

Pogba's £290,000 a week salary at United is higher than Salah's, and he signed his contract earlier.

But in the same period, Salah has helped Liverpool win the league title and the Champions League, while Pogba has achieved little beyond the mini treble under Jose Mourinho.

At the end of Mourinho's second season in charge, he suggested United should cash in on Pogba and Martial to generate enough cash for him to bring in new players.

And Mourinho once referred to Pogba as a "virus", arguing that he had destroyed everything his team-mates had worked so hard to build, and that he could spread the virus to others and exacerbate United's problems.

Perhaps it was this that Pogba took so badly that he thought he was depressed, but at the end of the day he is not a fit for United.

When Pogba said that he would consider Paris Saint-Germain, where he could be with many of his team-mates, it was not clear whether he was aware that Paris Saint-Germain had only two of his team-mates in the national team, Kylian Mbappe and Kimpembe, and it was clear to Pogba, 29, that he knew exactly what he needed in the future because the fighting years were behind him.
