Lucid is a thriller/drama that revolves around the character of Dr. James Wilson a scientist studying the effects of lucid dreaming, his main goal is to be able to fully control every aspect of his dream with a new sedative drug he and his team have developed.

Because of money issues Dr. Wilson cannot afford test subjects and will have to experiment on himself or his team, Dr. Wilson decides to take the sedative himself because he believes that if done successfully then he will be able to escape his world where he feels trapped by his work and wife and other responsibilities. Dr. Wilson was a depressed and angry man at times with a lot of issues, we all have our issues but for James Wilson he seems to look for them, and for an experiment that divulges into the brain and ones inner thoughts there were a lot of risks off the bat but these were risks Dr. Wilson overlooked.

When the first experiments begin Dr. Wilson finds success in his theory and is able to slowly control more and more of his subconscious mind allowing him to experience past events with his own twist in his favor. The first few trials Dr. Wilson starts with simple tasks that can only be done in a subconscious world where limits do not exist like flying or changing the environment around him and manipulating the weather.

Dr. Wilson begins to become obsessed with this new world he has created for himself, he could do anything he wanted in this life. The experiments he and his team were doing were harmless and had very little effect on Dr. Wilsons life and mental state, because of this Dr. Wilson decided to increase the tests ahead of schedule and even doing solo experiments late in the night causing him to sometimes stay asleep uninterrupted until his team would come into the lab to see him there. The team never saw an issue as they thought he was simply coming in early to get extra work done but when they find the results Dr. Wilson had been doing on his own they fear he has become addicted to this false reality.

This obsession soon takes a dark turn the more he uses the sedative the more addicting it becomes and the less he wants to go back into the real world. It gets to the point where he cannot differentiate what’s real and what’s not, he gets frustrated when he can’t change things in his favor in the real world and decides that this world is the only place he can truly be happy and at this point spends more time there than in reality. Dr. Wilson becomes so obsessed with this fantasy life that he takes the sedative every night and would sneak out of his own house to go to the lab and “experiment” more.

Unfortunately, the human brain can hold very dark thoughts and one night when the Doctor sneaks out he finds himself stuck in a now nightmare world filled with his worst fears and worst experiences in his life. Due to his constant use of the sedative it is to the point where he is in a almost comatose state and it’s now up to his team and himself to try to escape from this hellish world he has created facing his demons and fears that have haunted him his entire life all in one place. Despite his experience with the sedative he cannot overcome the bad things in his mind with the good as his thoughts are overpowered with darkness.
