How many of you have ever felt despair? Desperate?
Huh? How many?
Who here knows what it’s like to be angry with the very fact that your eyes opened this morning to the same congruent, depressing reality you fell asleep to the night before?
It feels like we’re swimming in a substance not made for our capabilities
Like a cheese grater trying to make its way in the ocean
And I just know I can’t be the only one.
How many of you have thrown in the towel at one point or another saying
“Fuck it. Nothing I do matters. It’s not going to change anything anyways”
How. Many. Of. You. Feel Desolate?
Like there’s nothing but blackness which awaits the future? Like all of the beauty and light that makes our lives magical can be easily snuffed out by the horrific undertakings of the rest of the world?
How many of you have regretted “being woke?” Have remembered that age-old saying
“Ignorance is bliss”
How many of you. Please.
I’m only begging because I know I can’t be the only one who is afraid.
I can’t be the only one who doesn’t know what is to come
The only one who is drowning out here in this terrifying storm which plagues the conscious
Because if I can confirm that’s true
That I’m not the only one
Then
I also know ; I’m not the only one trying.
I’m not the only one giving it every goddamn thing they’ve got every waking day.
So, truly, tell me
How many of you are hopeful, despite what your eyes have shown you?
How many of you are taking it one step at a time, knowing wherever the path leads you -- it at least moves you forward?
How many of you are out here, thrashing away while tears run down your face -- your mind telling you the best is yet to come.
How many of you are listening
How many of you are courageous? Unrelenting? Refusing to bow to a system whose only benefit is to itself and those that created it.
How many of you are screaming? Roaring? Rising up from the graves they have so desperately tried to put you in?
How many of us are out there?
Someone has just got to tell me.
Please.
