Chris Hemsworth's truth goes from poor surfer boy to storm-making Thor
Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have an enviable relationship
Chris Hemsworth seems to have no secret, currently living a comfortable life with his wife and three children, he left Marbury for the pristine waters of Byron Bay, Australia, after the success of Thor. For a movie character, it's hard to imagine that Hemsworth is the kind of guy who regularly gains or loses 20 pounds. After all, he's the hammer-wielding Thor on screen
Before joining the Avengers, Hemsworth had to do some soap operas with his brother, and since proving his worth, Hemsworth has taken Hollywood by storm, not unusual for a kid who just wants to surf all day
He wants to be a fashion designer
Hemsworth's upbringing is no secret. He spent his childhood in Australia. His mother Leonie, an English teacher, and his father Craig, a lawyer, had regular jobs, but money was tight. They couldn't afford fashionable clothes, so Hemsworth started sewing. The actor explained: "I remember buying patterns and trying to make pants and stuff like that, but I sewed two legs into one."
Sibling rivalry almost killed him
Chris, Liam and Luke are now the epitome of Hollywood handsomeness, but as teenagers, the trio had quite a rivalry, especially between Chris and his brother Liam, who admitted in an interview that his rivalry with Chris sometimes turned violent. "It was kind of like a scene from The Hunger Games when we were kids, Would fight over a toaster. I slapped my hand on his forehead and told him it was just a warning."
Liam almost became Thor
Before Chris Hemsworth landed the role of Thor, Liam was already a candidate for Thor, and Chris Hemsworth admitted that the audition for Thor didn't go well, however, things went much better for Liam, who was selected for the Final Four, Both producer Drew Gundam and Avengers director Joss Whedon, who had worked with Chris Hemsworth before directing Marvel films, were confused as to why his brother was in and he wasn't, and Joss Whedon immediately contacted casting director Branagh and said, Give Chris Hemsworth another chance
His first goal was to pay off his parents' house
The role of Thor wasn't Hemsworth's intention to get into acting. Rather, he wanted to help his parents out financially, as he told an interviewer: "We didn't have much money growing up, and it was frustrating to hear my parents talking about the weekly bills, so I became an actor to make money to pay their mortgage, and then very naively went out into the world and started auditioning."
Hemsworth came up with the idea after realizing his brother Luke was making $900 a week on the soap opera Neighbours. He went on to have huge success playing Kim Hyde on The show. Now, they have long since paid off their parents' house and Chris lives in a $9 million mansion in Byron Bay, Australia
After Star Trek, he gave up acting
Soon after arriving in Hollywood, Hemsworth was cast as Kirk's father in Star Trek, a role that would later prove to be a turning point for him, and despite being directed by one of the most respected directors in the industry and earning a 94 percent positive rating, he almost returned to Australia to continue surfing before he was offered the role
When he first arrived in Hollywood, he had no job, no friends, anxiety took over his life, and in order to pay off his parents' house, he went to one last audition just before Christmas 2008. If it didn't work out, he decided to go home with his tail between his legs. Luckily, it happened to be for The Cabin in the Woods, which would pave the way for Thor
Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky have an enviable relationship
Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, had agreed to marry Chris before he popped the question. The couple met through a language coach, and just nine months later, Hemsworth popped the question. It all happened quickly and he ended his single life for good
Hemsworth and Pataky have three children together, and Pataky, meanwhile, has been very supportive of Hemsworth's career, even lending a helping hand to Natalie Portman when she was forced to abandon Thor, with Pataky standing in for Portman in the final kiss scene because they were exactly the same height
His muscles are a little over the top
Playing Thor was no easy task for Hemsworth, who not only had to put on a wig but also gained 20 pounds of muscle. Hemsworth made himself eat constantly, and he had to focus his energy on protein-based foods, fruits and vegetables, as he told the magazine: "I actually eat all day long, when I'm not hungry, and it really exhausts you to eat that much food every day, and to do a certain amount of weight lifting, it's not as easy as surfing and playing sports."
Hemsworth was hangry on the set of In the Heart of the Sea
Hemsworth is an actor who will do anything for a role. He lost 33 pounds in four weeks while shooting 2015's "In the Heart of the Sea." That's a lot harder than gaining muscle. He only ate 500 calories a day. The struggle did help him portray a man stranded at sea for months, he says: "We had to suffer in a way to get the story right. In other words, the film didn't need much acting, it needed desperation."
