US laws have some pretty weird ways to get a DUI.

Drunk driving is a leading cause of fatal car crashes, so it only makes sense that police criminalize drinking and driving. However, not all DUI charges are the same.

Most people assume that getting charged with a DUI means you were driving a car, a truck, or a motorcycle while drunk. To a very large point, this is true — the vast majority of DUI arrests in America involve people behind the wheels of cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

However, not all DUIs actually involve a typical motor vehicle. Due to strange laws enacted throughout the States, there are some pretty weird ways to get a DUI. Here are some of the strangest ways to get arrested for drunk driving throughout the states.

Driving drunk while riding on a lawnmower.

In King of the Hill, Hank and his buddies often talked about mowing their lawns while drinking beer. Believe it or not, one of the weird ways to get a DUI is to drive a lawnmower while drunk.

In 2015, a man in Pennsylvania got arrested for a DUI while driving a lawnmower drunk. The rationale was that he was still under the influence, and that a lawnmower could do a lot of damage in the event that he drives it into someone or something.

He was successfully charged and had to take courses on driving safety as a result.

Driving a Zamboni while drunk.

In most states, a DUI can happen if you are driving a motor vehicle of any sort while intoxicated. If you're a fan of hockey or work at an ice rink, this can lead to some pretty weird ways to get a DUI.

This includes a Zamboni — a specialized machine that helps smooth out nicks in ice rinks. Zambonis are most commonly associated with ice hockey, one of the most alcohol-heavy spectator sports out there.

At a hockey game in 2015, baffled spectators watched the rink's Zamboni driver drive in strange zig-zagging patterns and pause in the middle of the rink for random intervals. The Zamboni then crashed into the rink, causing permanent damage.

Worried that something may be wrong with the driver, police arrived at the scene...only to realize that the driver had gotten completely plastered before he hopped on the Zamboni for his job.

Years earlier, another drunkard broke into an ice rink, stole a Zamboni, and took it for a joyride. He wasn't a professional Zamboni driver; he just wanted to drive an ice resurfacer for a while and drank way too many cocktails.

Both drivers ended up getting DUI charges as a result of driving a Zamboni drunk. It's also assumed that the Zamboni driver got fired from his job, and got yelled at for being a belligerent drunk.

In Ohio, you can also get a DUI on a motorized barstool.

Of all the exceptionally weird ways to get a DUI, this has to be the strangest of them all. In Newark, Ohio, a man was arrested after driving his motorized barstool down the street and into a ditch. After he wrecked the barstool, police were called.

After questioning, the man admitted that he had drank over 15 beers that night and that he wanted to ride the barstool home. He was promptly arrested for a DUI, making him possibly the only man in history to get locked up for driving a motorized barstool while drunk.

In many states, you also can get arrested for a DUI on an ATV.

A number of people have discovered that one of the weird ways to get a DUI is to drive an ATV while drunk.

ATVs are actually fairly dangerous if you drive them under the influence. After all, these vehicles can go up to 100 miles per hour in some circumstances. As a result, police are very likely to treat drunk driving on an ATV similarly to driving a car while drunk.

In 2013, one man was admitted to the hospital after he crashed his ATV. Upon realizing that he had been drunk while driving his sports quad, police arrested him for a DUI. He recovered his health, however, the DUI charge remained.

In most states, you can also get drunk driving charges on a horse.

There are many modern yet weird ways to get a DUI, but this law has been around for centuries. It's actually a law that's older than the invention of the automobile.

Prior to the invention of cars (also known as "horseless carriages" in the day) people would end up causing serious injury to themselves and others by riding horses while drunk. They also could end up hurting others by driving carriages while blitzed.

In recent years, there are still people who get arrested for DUIs by riding horses after one too many beers. Two of the more recent states to use DUI laws to penalize drunken riders include Nebraska and Texas.

You can also get a DUI on a motorized recliner.

There are some common but strange ways to get a DUI — but this isn't one of them. In fact, we didn't really actually know that motorized recliners existed until the making of this article.

However, in October of 2009, a man in Minnesota was arrested after drunkenly driving his motorized recliner into a car. Neither he, nor the assumedly plush recliner, were hurt.

The driver, who was three times over the legal alcohol limit for driving, was sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Certain states also can charge you for a DUI if you drive a golf cart while drunk.

South Carolina, California, Florida, and Ohio are only a handful of the many places that have outlawed drunk driving on a golf cart. (The fact that this law is needed says something, doesn't it?)

As a result, one of the more country club-approved ways to get a DUI would probably have to be driving a golf cart while drunk. Most of the time, it's assumed that country club personnel will just turn a blind eye to drunken golf cart driving hijinks, however there's always that risk you may get locked up.

This was the case with one man from Pasadena, who apparently decided it was going to be a good idea to take his golf cart on the 290 Freeway. Cops quickly found him and arrested him with a DUI.

Oh, and the most common of all weird ways to get a DUI is by riding a bicycle drunk.

In a number of states, riding a bicycle while drunk is an offense that can cause you to get charged with a DUI. To a point, it makes sense, since you are far more likely to get into an accident if you're biking while wasted.

The most recent case where a person has gotten a DUI from riding a bicycle happened in Utah. However, there have been other cases in New York and New Jersey as well.

On a similar note, another person also got arrested for riding a tricycle down the wrong side of the street while under the influence. The tricycle incident happened in Oregon.

Realistically, the best way to avoid getting one of these weird ways to get a DUI is to not drive drunk! Always have a DD in your crew, and if you're partying at home, there are plenty of ways to get your alcohol delivered straight to you! This is is the modern age people. Don't get caught blowing over the limit while riding your hoverboard, find a safe alternative.
