As the home to the best beer, Munich, the capital of Germany, was the original home to the first beer garden, or biergarten. Typically completed with an attached brewery, beer hall, or pub, Germany is home to some of the most traditional beer gardens in the world, for obvious reasons.

Plus, there is a chance you will see staff in traditional lederhosen, what's more authentic than that? If you're planning a trip to Germany for Oktoberfest, you're going to have to attend at least one of these German beer gardens.

Hofbräu

To start off our list of the best German beer gardens, Hofbräu Beer Garden is located in Berlin on Karl-Leibknecht Street. With a great selection of authentic German beer, they also provide hearty meals, great prices, and a quality time. Some of their menu items include pork steak and knuckle, roast chicken, veal schnitzel, and meatballs.

Your drinks are served in steins and the staff is very attentive and friendly, all the while wearing German folk wear. And to complete the atmosphere, a live German folk band frequents the entertainment cycle. Besides their amazing beer choices, you have to try their giant soft pretzels.

Brauhaus Rixdorf

Another beer garden located in Berlin, Brauhaus Rixdorf is home to some of the best cuisine in the city. Built in 1885, the alehouse still has a rustic and historical feel, though the building was refurbished in 1988. Take a step back in time as you enter this beer hall, and enjoy the ambiance of the detailed rooms and beautiful interior.

Believe it or not, their breakfast is the most raved about meal, as it provides rich flavors and a hearty helping. However, you can order up to four different main courses from the buffet to choose from. And of course, the beer selection is one to drool over.

Weihenstephaner

Located in the Weihenstephaner Berg, Weihenstephaner is one of the best German beer gardens to visit. It is believed to be one of the oldest existing breweries in the world and is well worth the trip. With plenty of space, a great location, and over 350 seats, this is a place you can spend all afternoon in, talking, drinking, and filling your belly.

With great cuisine and even better beer, the options are limitless. If you're worried about getting a good seat, you can always make a reservation. Plus, it's only a 20 minute walk from Main Square's downtown, and you can book a tour that includes a beer tasting and glass souvenir.

Heller’s Volksgarten

Heller’s Volksgarten is the place to be during a warm summer day. With a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere, the alehouse is located right on a beautiful lake; you can even rent paddle boats. The pub offers a huge selection of great tasting beer and plenty of large servings of plates like pasta, meat, schnitzel, and fries.

The best part of this alehouse is the view, and being able to watch the ducks and view the beautiful flowers completes the atmosphere. You can walk around the area or find a nice place to sit. They host famous barbecue parties, where students, locals, and tourists come to celebrate the day.

Paulaner Brauhaus

To complete our list of the best German beer gardens, Café am Neuen See is certainly not least. Located in Berlin, the beer garden is located next to a small lake, with plenty of seating to take in the view.
