Queer Vocal Voices is setting out, well not exactly a prompt, more like a challenge. There are stakes though! Community stakes, because we think that the best way to keep a community together is to involve them as much as possible!
So the challenge is simple, write something about what pride means to you, publish it in the pride community. It can be anything in the spirit of renewal of queer pride, because we're looking to spruce up the place any type of piece whether it's poetry, fiction, a coming out story, a story about your queerness, horror, mostly we just want you to start making this community active. I think We also really want to encourage more queer stories to get others involved and engaged in our communities.
My dream for the community is it is so much more than identity, it is artistry and flowery words and scripts. I along with Oneg and Jim feel that the Pride community is so much more complicated than identity, and we want to showcase that. We also think there is so much talent that could have been put in the Pride community but was not, now that Vocal has lifted the word count requirement let those gay poems, micro fictions, fictions, everything loose!
We will set up an anonymous (on the voters part) voting system for people to rank their top three stories. We want everyone in QVV to have a voice in who moves on to final judging rounds.
First prize will be a $5 tip and a three day feature on the Facebook group (your choice of pieces)
Second Prize will be a $3 tip and a two day feature on the Facebook group (your choice of pieces)
Third Prize will be a $1 tip and a one day feature on the Facebook group. (Your choice of the piece)
Rules
1. The story must be new to Pride, we will give you two weeks to work this project. This means it must be commented on this piece by midnight on February 23rd your local time.
2. Comment the link to your story both in the comments of this post and in the Facebook group if you are there. (If not come join us! Or the discord where we have a private Pride chat)
3. No word count requirement minimum or maximum, I suppose keep it 2,000 words or shorter just for times sake
4. Any genre is welcome as long as it is posted in pride and has to do with what pride means to the author, in fact all genres are encouraged.
5. This challenge is only open to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community (don't worry we have another one in the works for everyone!)
The judges will be Oneg, Jim, and I, as well as some outside guest judges to help narrow it down!
Thank you for making this experience of creating a pride community dedicated to helping each other so seamlessly! We cannot wait to read your entries!
