It is Officially Legal in Thailand

In the early days of June 2022 there was a bit of a buzz (no pun intended) around the Land of Smiles. Restrictions were about to be reduced to a minimal from COVID-19, the pandemic was to be considered an endemic and marijuana was about to become legalized. For many of us who are from North America the legalization of marijuana is no big deal, but in Asia it is far from the norm. What was even better about the Thai Government making this decision is they did it in a way as to not suffocate or restrict the local population with regulations and rules like in the dictatorship of Canada where the rules are just nonsense to say the least. In Thailand the government made the move in order to enable the Thai population to have access to additional revenue both through creating new and innovative products and creating a whole new kind of tourism.

Legend Siam Pattaya "House of Celebration"

Almost immediately after the order was signed and weed was legal in Thailand things began to change. In Pattaya, Legend Siam Cultural Theme Park opened a new Marijuana Museum and hosted a business conference and event called "House of Celebration". The event gave the opportunity for Thai business owners to learn about the new marijuana industry, connect entrepreneurs with exciting new products to investors and gave residents the opportunity to purchase up to 10 Thai Stick plants to grow in their own homes. Hemp plants were also made available but odds are if you are reading this article that is not what your interest is in. In addition to this very interesting event Legend Siam Pattaya now offers plants for sale online to be shipped anywhere in Thailand. Marijuana cultivation has been made 100% available to anyone with an internet connection and a Thai bank account and Thai Stick is going to be making a comeback. You can see the full event in the video below.

How Accessible is Cannabis in Thailand?

Marijuana at this point in time is easier to acquire than alcohol or tobacco. That is not an overstatement in the least, it is a fact. Dried flower can be purchased on Facebook Marketplace, Lazada, Shopee and from street vendor carts and bars. There are varying qualities all around and if you are a tourist be cautious because you don't want to be overcharged. Quality sativa Thai Stick should be no more than 100 baht per gram. Designer buds like you would find in Holland, Canada or the United States vary. Your best bet is to find a foreigner that already has some connections or make some Thai friends to get the best deal on the best quality. If you are planning a trip to Thailand and would like to pre-order marijuana before you arrive you can contact the LIOP support team ([email protected]) and get information. You can get weed almost anywhere, ordering from a reputable store online is the safest bet as they are subject to reviews and refund policies.

Is Weed Tourism Really a Thing?

You may be wondering if marijuana tourism is a real thing and I can assure you it is. Every country I have ever visited has had some form of marijuana tourism. In most countries with harsh punishments the product and quality of experience can vary. When a country like Thailand legalizes marijuana it will allow those who are interested to enjoy the beaches, night life and attractions while enjoying some Thai Stick or other strain of marijuana. The risk of incarceration, persecution and having something undesirable happening through interactions while making a purchase are completely gone. If smoking up is your thing and you want to have a completely unique experience, Thailand should certainly be on your list of places you must see.
