Visiting Copacabana Beach in 2020 was an interesting perspective on the normally packed tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The COVID pandemic was in full swing and not too many people were travelling. At that point in time Brazil was recently moved from number 2 to number 3 on the list of countries with the highest number of cases. That combined with the Brazilian President treating COVID-19 like a common cold pretty much ensured I was one of the only tourists there that September.
Christ the Redeemer
I went to visit Christ the Redeemer at the end of 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Even with tourism at an all time low in Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer still seemed to draw a crowd and social distancing was not exactly the easiest once I got to the base of the monument. This article will cover some of the history of the statue, what it was like to visit during the pandemic and tries to answer my question about why this statue is considered a Wonder of the Modern World.
Morro da Urca
Morro da Urca or Mount Urca which is also called Urca Hill, is a peak situated in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Mount Urca sits at the mouth of the Guanabara Bay and directly next to Sugar Loaf Mountain. Morro da Urca is one of several granite-quartz mountains around Rio de Janeiro. Urcas peak tops out at a height of 220 meters or 770 feet, making it a nice vantage point out onto Rio de Janeiro and the bay. The area is protected by the Sugarloaf Mountain and Urca Hill Natural Monument created in 2006 which became part of a world heritage site declared by UNESCO in 2012.
Jorge Selarón was born in Chile in 1947. He traveled, lived and worked as a painter and sculptor in over 50 countries around the world before deciding to settle in Rio de Janeiro in 1983.
Temple of the Sphinx 2021
If you are planning to visit Egypt then without a doubt you are considering a visit to Giza. The Giza Plateau and the Pyramid Complex are quite possibly the most iconic places in the world. Home to the Great Pyramid, the last standing Wonder of the Ancient World and sitting right out front is the alluring and mysterious Great Sphinx.
Returning to Canada During COVID
In the early months of 2020 I was in Bangkok, Thailand. I had been there for months and when COVID-19 hit I was stuck the same as everyone else there having to deal with restrictions, curfews and that general unknowing of what was happening. It all seems like a lifetime ago but in fact it was only a year and few months from when I am writing this.
I love my job because...
I don't normally participate in challenges here on Vocal. Mainly because when I write something, create something or photograph something it is normally about content that I choose and to share what I believe will either help or inspire others. That being said when this challenge showed up and Vocal said complete this sentence "I love my job because..." I really can't think of any reasons I don't.
Extending a Tourist Visa in Cairo June 2021
I came to Cairo to see Egypt a bit. I would take my time and slowly migrate South snapping photos and taking videos. To do this however meant I would either need to leave the country and come back every 30 days (also known as a visa run) or I could legally stay for 3 - 6 months and apply for a foreign residence permit. It seemed smarter to me to just apply for the permit and more the "proper" way to be visiting. This is a walk-through of that experience. Some of you may be considering to extend an Egyptian e-Visa or want to apply for temporary residency. It is my understanding that there are shortcuts for women and depending on your nationality you may need to go through a slightly different process. I can only share what I experienced.
