Traveling with weed is actually easier today then it was in the late 20th century. Technology has certainly played a part, but attitudes at security checks have eased as regards to weed. The combination of the legalization movement's successes in conjunction with a security force more concerned with weapons than weed, has made for a more accommodating environment for weekend travelers. There are a number great alternatives for traveling life stylists to stash their stash. They are at the mercy of state law when driving with weed and at the mercy of federal law when flying with weed. This is true even if the local jurisdiction you've arrived to or departed from allows cannabis consumption.

The best way to travel with cannabis is using hash oil cartridges. It's impossible to distinguish between the cartridges and other e-juice items. Hash oil cartridges have little to no aroma when in use. When not in use, they have absolutely zero odor.

Edibles

The second best way to travel with weed is to travel with edibles. Edibles, like hash oil, can be hard to distinguish between the cannabis and non-cannabis versions. Gummies can be made to mimic other gummy food substances or simply taken out of their package and ziplock bagged.

It's crucial to have a lock box when driving with weed. In most states, a lock box does not have to be opened under plain view search rules. Additionally, many states require even medical marijuana card holders to store their cannabis in a locked compartment while driving. In some states, simply a stapled bag qualifies (to show the seal has not yet been "broken," bring a stapler).

If you're traveling with flower, smell can be a concern. It's important to utilize items that not only contain the smell, but actually eliminate the odor. Products from brands like Ozium work wonders when neutralizing cannabis odor.

Vehicle Traps

All cars have room for hidden compartments known as traps. For example, in many older cars there's room behind the radio (when properly uninstalled and reinstalled). There's also room in most cars in the sunroof between the glass and the bottom retractable surface. Also in most cars, the area behind and underneath a forward folding seat is able to conceal small amounts of cannabis when driving.

Checked Luggage

If you intended on flying with weed, rest assured the TSA is not interested in busting you for a reasonable amount of marijuana product. In fact, on the TSA website it states, "TSA security officers do not search for marijuana or other drugs. In the event a substance that appears to be marijuana is observed during security screening, TSA will refer the matter to a law enforcement officer." Unfortunately, federal law still classifies marijuana as a class A restricted drug and all airports are under federal jurisdiction.

Even so, the best method of flying with marijuana is always to check your luggage containing cannabis. Checking it will keep you at ease throughout the checkpoint process and utilizing some packaging rules will minimize risk. The easiest way to pack marijuana for flight is to wrap your stash in clear wrap and put the green in your folded jeans pocket with your clothes. Make sure there are no liquids and no electronics in this bag.

Carry On Luggage

Avoid packing cannabis in your carry on if you can. The TSA website states, "Even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it triggers an alarm during the screening process;" thus, it's best to make sure your cannabis is properly concealed in a non-carry on.

If you must carry on your cannabis when flying, make sure to conceal the weed utilizing the folded pants pocket method while making sure not to have liquids or electronics in that same bag.

Homemade Concealments

Some concealments can be utilized regardless of travel method. For example, a hollowed out pen is able to conceal a J or blunt. Or, a foiled packed of cigarillos is able to be opened, rolled and put back into the original packaging (with foil resealed utilizing the heat from a lighter).

There are many plain view concealment containers available today; most are in the form of half filled beverage containers with threaded, removable bottoms (where your product is able to stashed).

Medical Marijuana Card

One of the best things you can have when traveling with cannabis is a medical marijuana card. If nothing else, this card signifies you are in some way able to carry the item you intend on carrying.

Knowledge of Local Laws and Regulations

Before traveling, always study the laws and regulations of your destination and, if driving, the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions through which you'll be traveling. Know when it's legal and know when it's not. Knowing your rights regarding cannabis consumption is an important element to traveling safe.

The most useful thing to take with you when traveling with cannabis is common sense. Never take more than you need and never do something you wouldn't do in your daily life.

Traveling with marijuana is all about minimizing risk to stay safe. Be smart and be prepared and all should be fine with your cannabis travels.
