Cannabis has a slew of medical uses, and perhaps one of the most well-known is its ability to calm anxiety. The key anxiety-quelling ingredient in cannabis that helps keep us mellowed out is CBD, or cannabidiol.

Strains of cannabis that are CBD-rich are great for anxiety sufferers. In fact, they may, in certain cases, be more effective than pill-form medications. Here are the best picks if you want a joint that acts faster than a chill pill.

Harlequin

You don't have to be the Joker or a smoker to enjoy this Harlequin! This incredibly CBD-strain boasts an almost 5:2 ratio of CBD to THC. This carefully crafted hybrid is known for having CBD levels exceeding 15 percent - a rarity even among strains known for having good levels of cannabidiol.

CBD Critical Cure

Stoners can tell you that this plant is serious about its CBD levels when it's even mentioned in its name. This Critical Kush spinoff is extremely indica dominant, and smells slightly reminiscent of a temple.

At around 11 percent CBD and 5 percent THC, this strain will definitely give you that mellow, mildly euphoric feeling that you've been wanting for a while.

Sour Tsunami

If you're a fan of Sour Diesel and New York Diesel, then you're going to enjoy this blend of the two. Sour Tsunami, much like its forbears, is a one to one blend of THC to CBD.

Thankfully, both levels are very rich in this herb. So, if you do smoke up, expect to see levels as high as 10 percent of each. (Note: If you're THC sensitive, this may not be a good choice.)

Stephen Hawking Kush

This "smart" blend of kush is a blend between a number of CBD-rich strains, and is meant to help reduce the chances of paranoia, anxiety, and jitters from THC. Though it's a 1:1 CBD to THC ratio plant, Stephen Hawking Kush isn't as strong as Sour Tsunami.

Each flower it boasts offers around 5 percent of both THC and CBD.

Harle-Tsu

As you can guess, this strain is a nice mix between Harlequin and Sour Tsunami. Much like the Harlequin strain, it's a high-CBD and low-THC strain that has more of a calming effect than a "high" to it.

Harle-Tsu is a great option for people who get hallucinations from THC. In some cases, Harle-Tsu has as much as 20 times more CBD than it does THC. As a result, this is a strain that's excellent for people who want to avoid psychoactive problems.

Cannatonic

While this strain may sound more like a cannabis-infused gin cocktail, the real truth is that it's a CBD-rich strain that is meant to help you get mellow in a pinch. This 2:1 CBD to THC ratio plant is a cross between strains like G-13 and MKULTRA, which means it's meant to knock you into a sedated state.

This strain has a jaw dropping 17 percent CBD. So, if you want to drop your anxiety, this is a good way to do it.

ACDC

If you think that Cannatonic is strong, wait until you check out its newest derivative - ACDC. This superb strain has a CBD to THC ratio that often exceeds 20:1.

A typical toke of ACDC will yield around 24 percent CBD to every 6 percent THC. The bottom line about this strain is that it will leave you thunderstruck in a peaceful, happy way.

Canna-Tsu

Cannatonic's other derivative is Canna-Tsu, a hybrid between the original strain and Sour Tsunami. Unlike ACDC, which packs an insane wallop, Canna-Tsu is more or less made to be strong without being too strong of a smoke.

This may be the only bud on this list that has a higher THC level than CBD level. The strain gets 8 percent and 7 percent, respectively. Even so, it doesn't really feel like a "high" in the most classic sense of the word; it's more of a relaxing toke than anything else.

CBD OG Kush

Made as a derivative of one of the most popular strains of cannabis in modern history, CBD OG Kush was created to bring out more CBD in each deliciously flavored bud. This surprisingly easy-to-grow strain can boast 5 to 10 percent of both THC and CBD. Since it's a 1:1 ratio strain, you can definitely expect a strong buzz with the same great taste.

CBD MediHaze

This is one of the few strains out there that was specially created to be used both recreationally and medically, with a strong emphasis on calming people down. CBD MediHaze has a 1:1 ratio of THC to Cannabis, and packs a very respectable 9 percent of each with each bud.
