Inspired by the night

Andromeda beckons us and beguiles,

Beyond the reach of a lifetime.

Capella casts her light billions of miles,

Deep in the eternal nighttime.

~

Ever expanding, the cosmos burns on,

Filling the long nights with wonder,

Gracing, inspiring, in story and song,

Heroic tales of praise and plunder.

~

Imagine us threading our way through the dark,

Jumping across the vast distance,

Knowing someday, we'll encounter that spark -

Life elsewhere, or proof of existence.

~

Meanwhile, poets dream as they gaze at the night,

Needing no vessel to bear them,

Only their hearts and that far-traveled light

Pleading, “Hear all my stories and share them!”

~

Quantum leaps, ancient races – all within our reach,

Resounding, for those who will hear.

Sagas, ballads, and odes, to enthrall and to teach,

Tales of love and of courage and fear.

~

Underneath the night skies, flowers bloom, angels kiss,

Valiant heroes are born, others die,

While the poets drink deep from the ancient abyss,

Xenial gifts for the heart and mind's eye.

~

Yet, these wonders will perish, lest we set them free.

Zephyrs, brushing the edge of the sky.

I just had to do something about the stars for this challenge, so here it is.

Congratulations, truly, on such an original and mind-quieting piece. You managed to include the facts of the universe, the magic of beholding it, the drama of life under it, and the magnitude of its vastness all in one poem that reads like how it feels to share a breath of relief. All using beautiful language, mind you. What a great accomplishment
