I barely even know your name.
The coffee shop is loud with morning grid,
Beneath the heavy coat where you are hid.
You drop your keys, I hand them back to you,
A passing glance between a stranger crew.
A polite smile, a mumbled word of thanks,
Two random numbers in the social ranks.
No spark is lit, no sudden lightning strike,
Just two commuters looking quite alike.
A fleeting moment in the city game,
I barely even know your name.
The weeks fly by, the casual greetings grow,
To late-night talks beneath the neon glow.
I learn the secrets that you hide inside,
The childhood fears, the scars you try to hide.
Your laughter fills the corners of my mind,
The sweetest comfort that I'll ever find.
My pulse goes wild whenever you walk near,
A sudden passion, desperate and clear.
Though history is young and fresh the flame,
I barely even know your name.
We wake to sunlight on the tangled sheets,
Far from the noise of rushing city streets.
The masks are gone, the walls have tumbled down,
You are my home, my anchor, and my crown.
The titles that we wore have stripped away,
Into the magic of a brand-new day.
We are no longer bound by what we knew,
As I am lost, entirely, in you.
Forget the past and how you first became,
I barely even know your name.
