Young girls.
They have been taught that males
must fight their physical battles
That if a man truly loves her
then the bruises he gives her
are worth it
That if they want to succeed in
anything, that they must kiss
up to their male superior
That she is not smart unless
she is valedictorian
That she is not hurting
unless society approves it
That she is not beautiful
unless she wears 20 pounds
of makeup on her face
That she must hide her flaws
That showing emotions is a
sign of weakness
We as a society have taught
young girls these ideals
When will we start to teach
these girls that they are
unprecedented?
That their minds are stronger
than they think and they are
equal to all other genders
When will we let them know
they are being heard?
The environment that they
grow up in molds them into
who they will become as
individuals in the future
If we wish for better legacies,
for a better generation than the
ones we have, we must mold
them into the people we have
wanted ourselves to be but
failed to become
