YOU PROMISED LAUGHTER
laughter turned to hell too soon

YOU PROMISED LAUGHTER
You promised laughter,
said my sadness would be gone,
you held me while the moon was high
then disappeared by dawn.
You painted me a future
with a brush dipped into lies,
I thought I saw forever
when I looked into your eyes.
You promised me a garden
where no broken flowers fell,
but every rose grew thorns on me
and all my tears turned to hell.
You knew the wounds I carried,
I showed you every scar,
you said you’d never hurt me,
then hurt me twice as hard.
I waited for your footsteps,
for your key inside the door,
but silence came to visit
and slept upon the floor.
My tears became a river
that nobody could see,
I smiled before the watching world
while drowning underneath.
You promised me your laughter,
but left an empty sound,
a memory like shattered glass
still scattered all around.
But hell cannot hold forever
a heart that wants to rise,
and truth will find the daylight
however darkness lies.
So keep your hollow promises,
I know their taste too well,
you promised me a heaven,
yet my tears turned to hell.
Now I will build my heaven
without your hand in mine,
and one day I will laugh again—
but the laughter will be mine.
