YOU LEFT ME FROZEN, COLDER THAN ICE
Frozen from your world

YOU LEFT ME FROZEN, COLDER THAN ICE
You left me frozen, colder than ice,
with winter in my veins,
your final words became the frost
that settled on my pain.
The fire burned beside my chair,
but I could feel no heat,
my heart had turned to frozen glass
still breaking when it beat.
I wore two coats inside the house,
yet shivered through the night,
for cold does not come only
when the snow is falling white.
Sometimes cold is someone’s silence,
a door slammed in your face,
an empty side of someone’s bed,
a missing warm embrace.
You left your name upon my lips,
your shadow on the wall,
and every room remembered you
though you remembered none at all.
I thought I would stay frozen,
a woman made of stone,
too numb to love another soul,
too frightened to be known.
Then spring came through the curtains
and touched me where I lay,
a little patch of golden sun
that would not go away.
It melted something deep in me
I thought had long since died,
and all the tears I could not cry
came pouring from inside.
You left me frozen, colder than ice,
but seasons always change,
and hearts can find their warmth again
when love has left them strange.
Now I am fire, I am summer,
I am sunlight burning through—
you may have left me cold as ice,
but I did not freeze for you.
