You said you would stop gambling
You said you would stop drinking
You said you would pull up your pants
You didn't mean that.
You showed you would drive longer
You showed you would earn more
You showed your faith at church, but
You didn't mean that.
You complained about my weight
You complained about my needs
You complained about my limitless goals
You didn't mean that.
When I slapped you that day
With a hand as strong as steel
And you slapped me in return
With papers that made me feel
Used.
When you got me my daily coffee
Then told me to move around
Or else my health would, you preached,
Drive me straight into the ground
Confused.
When everything became a joke
And fights were daily suffered,
You didn't take me seriously,
A jab quite duly offered,
Amused.
You left when you'd had enough,
You left because I cared too much,
You left and then you turned around.
You didn't mean that.
