Yet here I am

a sonnet

By Emma DatsonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read
My inspiration, the majestic banyan trees at QUT Gardens Point, Brisbane

See the candescent lights infuse the leaves,

Everywhere that golden glow, it calls me,

To sit under, majestic banyan trees,

So it seems, that I’m in a pixie’s lee.

I am hidden now, the world, it floats on,

There are so many people, so close by,

Yet here I am, safe held in the bosom,

Knowing that I can release my soul’s cry.

My inner torment, it bubbles away,

Struggling to get out so I am free,

When all I long for is just to be gay,

All my worries gone, just free to be me.

I long for a life of joy and wonder,

My old life to be gone, no asunder.
